What is the Custom Domain Name feature?
The Custom Domain Name feature lets you map a custom domain name to your Groupsite. Once you subscribe to a paid subscription plan that includes Custom Domain Name as a feature, you'll need to configure your custom domain name to point to your Groupsite. This requires you to work with the domain registrar from whom you purchased your domain name. You'll also need DNS hosting services, provided by most domain name registrars.
Will my custom domain name appear on every page of my Groupsite?
No. Your Groupsite's domain name (groupname.groupsite.com) - and not your custom domain name (mydomainname.com) -- will continue to display on https:// pages of your Groupsite.
HTTPS pages include the "Join," "Login," and "Upgrade Groupsite" pages of all Groupsites. These pages secure sensitive information with 128-bit SSL encryption and appear with https:// in your web browser's address bar.
A custom domain name will not appear on https:// pages in your Groupsite.
When my custom domain name doesn't appear, is it noticeable?
When using a custom domain name, displays of the Groupsite's domain name are un-intrusive and, more often, go unnoticed. Very few pages use https://, and the term "groupsite" is multi-purpose.
You can also choose a domain name for your Groupsite that reflects your custom domain name. For example, if you're using "macysdayparade.com" as your custom domain name, select "macysdayparade.groupsite.com" as your Groupsite's domain name. You can do this when you create your Groupsite. Can I use the "Enhanced Security" and "Custom Domain Name" premium features together?
No. These premium features of Groupsites cannot be used together. When you enable "Enhanced Security," https:// applies to all pages of your Groupsite. Your custom domain name will not display, even if you already subscribe to the Custom Domain Name feature.
If you subscribe to and use "Enhanced Security" and want to use a Custom Domain Name with your Groupsite, your Groupsite's enhanced security service will be disabled as your Custom Domain Name request is processed. This removes the site-wide application of enhanced security in your Groupsite. It does not remove your subscription to the "Enhanced Security" feature, whether you have subscribed to it as an add-on service or included in a bundle.
I added the "Enhanced Security" feature, and now my Groupsite's Custom Domain Name mapping stopped working. What happened?
Most likely, you subscribed to or turned on the Enhanced Security (SSL) feature. To disable Enhance Security, log-in to your Groupsite. Go to MANAGER > Group Settings > General Settings. Scroll down to "SSL". Change the setting for "SSL" to "disabled" and then click on "Save."
If you subscribed to the Enhanced Security feature as an add-on, unsubscribe from this feature in the MANAGER > Upgrade Groupsite area. Disabling Enhanced Security will not unsubscribe you from the feature.
I mapped my domain name to my Groupsite. Now, I'd like email boxes, such as info@mydomain.com. Can Groupsite.com do that?
Groupsite.com doesn't provide personal email services -- POP3, IMAP, etc., an INBOX or anything similar. If your organization uses email with your domain name (john@mydomainname.com, for ex.), you'll need to map your custom domain name to your Groupsite as described in our instructions for how to map a custom domain name to your Groupsite.
When you map your custom domain name to your Groupsite via a CNAME record entry, you can create MX and other record entries through your DNS provider as needed.
