Discussion Topic sorting

Drilling into a discussion category, I see the list of discussion topics. Each column header is hyperlinked and I assume it is for sorting the topics by that column, if desired. But it seems no matter what header I click on or how many times, the sort order never changes, even though I get the up or down arrow on that column.
