Could you a bit more specific about how this is failing for you?
Images and hyperlinks definitely work (see below):
Just insert an image using the image button, select the image with your mouse or with [Shift]-Arrow Keys, then click the link button.
the image is not hyperlinked to a URL of my chosing nor is the http string linked to the stated text URL.

When I follow the instructions that I mentioned above, am I able to link an image to any URL I wish. Did you see the example linked image that I posted above?
What steps are you following when you try hyperlink an image? Are they the same steps that I posted above? If not, can you try it using the steps above?
What about the http in the text field is not live as a link.

In order to create a hyperlink, please use the link button in the editor.
Currently, there is no "automatic" conversion of text that looks like an URL into a link.
Automatic hyperlinking is a feature that we intend to add soon.
