Found a Couple Problems with WYSIWYG

I love the new WYSIWYG feature, but I wanted to report a few problems on my site .

1.  I was able to successfully create a paypal button using the widget option for one of my events at http://wwww.hispanicfirst.com/calendar/event/2008/1/19/25720.  Unfortunately, the button will not work.  When I pass the cursor over the button, the cursor turns into a "hand."  Great!!  When I click on the paypal button, though, nothing happens.  I'm already a paypal business subscriber and I use paypal successfully at another site.

2.  The editor does not seem to work too well on the Summary Page.  I can make edits, but when I submit the changes, I get taken to some sort of page that takes up the entire screen.  I have to reload the homepage and once there, I find the edits did not take.  The editor does seem to work at other locations though, like the calendar.  When I submit the changes (say I boldface a word), it updates the screen and I can see the changes.

Hi Roque,

I'm sorry that it's not working well for you. Frown

Could you let us know what browser you're using?  Just trying it out with my default browser (Firefox on a Mac) doesn't yield any problems editing the summary page, so I'm figuring that the problem must occur with a different browser.

Hi Joe,

Don't feel sorry.  Overall, I like the upgrade.  To answer your question, though, I am using IE7.  My browser is set to allow pop-ups, so I know this particular paypal button is not getting blocked by a pop-up blocker.

Hopefully, some other folks will chime in and let us know if they are having problems saving their summary page edits on IE7.

Hi Roque,

I believe javascript is not supported only <embed>. Some Paypal buttons are javascript.

Roque and Denis,

Denis is absolutely correct.  The only areas of the site that support JavaScript are the "manager only" areas, such as the Summary Page or the sidebar, etc.

I don't think Javascript is the problem.  I'm not a programmer--thus, I'm not sure the paypal buttons are even in Javascript--but I just put the buttons on both summeary page and the sidebar and I still get the same result.  When you click on the button, nothing happens.

I am using IE7 and I get the same result whether I am using my personal computer at home or my computer here at work.

Could you send me a private message with:

  1. Example code for one of your buttons.

  2. A link to a page which has a non-working button.

I'll try and do whatever I can to help with this.

Nevermind #2 above, I see the link you already provided. :)

But could you send me the example code, so that I can see what the button code is supposed to look like (I'm assuming that if our editor is messing up the button, then the code must be being altered).

I believe FORM TAG is not supported. And most Buy Now Paypal buttons are FORM TAG HTML code.

You can always make a Paypal Button as an Image with an URL link to you payment page, nice and simple.

Dennis,

Thanks.  How did you turn the paypal button into an image?

Over the long run, I think it will be important for Collectivex to integrate paypal into the website.  It will really help a lot of new members.  For me, paypal could have been the deciding factor as to whether I use CollectiveX or some other site.  Without paypal, there is no way for me to recoup my cost from my members.  If possible, paypal should be integrated somewhere on the calendar.  People read the event description from the calendar, RSVP, and then pay from the calendar area.

The good news is that I am a Paypal business subscriber (which is free) and I have found a temporary workaround for the paypal issue. Fortunately, CollectiveX provides the managers with everyones e-mail.  Therefore, I can send an e-mail invoice to individual members with a link that they can use to pay via paypal.

This solution is not optimal, since you will most likely have to create and send multiple invoices for every member who wants to send a payment.  No one wants to create and e-mail 40 invoices.  It is more efficient for members to click on a button on the site and pay individually.

Nonetheless, the e-mail invoice method will work great for those managers who are having paypal issues like I am.  Hopefully, this e-mail helps a few folks.

Denis is right, form tags aren't supported anywhere except the manager-edited areas of the site.  What we've been thinking of doing is allowing both <script> and <form> tags for managers only.  No matter what area of the site it is.  We can't open it up any more than that, since it's a serious security risk.  The PayPal image should work for now though, shouldn't it?

Here is PayPal Website Payments Standard Integration Guide - a Paypal Button will only work by using Form Tag, you can make it work with Image, but it require next steps. I will strongly advice for security you host a PayPal Button on your own website, so you have full control. https://www.paypalobjects.com/WEBSCR-495-20080103-1/en_US/AU/pdf/PP_WebsitePaymentsStandard_IntegrationGuide.pdf

Hi Joe,

When you guys have time, you may look at Advanced Editor, as it has a few Bugs, which space indexing and breaks and font selecting.
