HTML Source Editor not working - code disappearing

I've been using the HTML source when editing content successfully, however when I tried to use it today, I noticed that some of the code keeps disappearing in 2 ways:
1) when pasting in code and saving - going back to view the source shows chunks of it missing
2) when viewing existing content from last week - click edit, click "HTML Source" - some of the HTML is missing when simply viewing the source, no editing. Luckily, I canceled out and didn't hit save.

Please ignore this as a bug - may very well be user error.
Update: #1 above, I noticed I was missing one missing quote in my HTML. When I corrected that, the code seemed fine. So perhaps for #2 above, there might be something like a quote missing.
