'Edit Reply' not working

I can't edit replies in this post - I get either a new reply or a summary of all the discussions instead. The same thing happens with Safari or Firefox, and it happened a few days ago in a different groupsite with a recent version of Explorer on Windows.

I can edit new topics like this one though.

Interesting.

I haven't seen anyone report this happening at all.

I've tried this in both Firefox and Safari and it doesn't happen to me.

What is probably happening to you is that you are entering text into the wrong box.

The "Add a Reply" heading below is for adding new posts. The textbox under it does just that.

Also, I'll add to my messages above (both created using the "Edit Reply" feature - one in Safari, one in Firefox):

The "edit" action on our server is hard-coded to edit replies. There is no way to make it create a new reply, no matter what you may try to do. Further, the "Edit Reply" button is hard-coded to bring you up an edit form which targets the edit action on our server. So, I can't see how you could make this happen, no matter hard you may try.

I think you are likely just entering your post into the textbox under "Add a Reply"... which would, of course, add a new reply.

Wish it were so. "This":http://www.collectivex.com/uploads/files/10406/editreply.png is what I get when I click on 'Edit Reply' in this forum.

...and this is what you see when you scroll to the bottom of the above image "here": http://www.collectivex.com/uploads/files/10407/addreply.png

Btw, is there a way to insert the image into this message?

Also, when two of us tried to edit a reply on Windows Explorer (kept up to date), the other person simply accepted it as 'that's just how it is' and basically assumed there was nothing she could do. It'd be great if there was a bug button like Safari used to have because there are so many people who give up using system features because there's no way to let the company know it's not working.

Thanks so much for sticking with this thread, Neil.

I'm glad you posted that image, it made it more clear what was happening to you.

The edit action was denying your right to edit the post and was trying to redirect you to the forums list page, because of a typo in the permissions check.

When you said that edit just "added" a reply, I had no idea that you meant that the edit button was redisplaying a new page in the middle of your screen.

Anyhow, I have corrected that permissions error. Let me know if it works for you or not.

It works now - thanks!
