Profile Photos cut off

We had a complaint about the system automatically picking the "middle" of the photo, because for one user that meant her chest and torso. She wasn't happy about it, and wanted to be immediately removed from CollectiveX. Also, there were enough users that had the tops of their heads cut off too. I figured that most people's heads are at the top of their photo and changed the default cropping. If you don't crop the photo yourself, and it's too tall, this is what it does by default now.

I did add a preview function to the photo selector now, so you can see what it will do.

There's not way for us to "automatically" choose between "middle" or "top". We have to pick one or the other. I'll try and add the ability to let users pick which part of the photo we select their picture from and update the system with this feature by this evening some time.

ok, I see what you are saying. Determining what part of the picture is cropped might be a helpful feature. I don't think most users will be sophisticated enough, or willing to put in the time to crop their image to a 1 to 1 proportioned image. Maybe call it "image positioning" with a drop down box including Top, Center, or Bottom. I think it would be safe to always center the image when it is necessary to crop the width of the image.

I'm sorry that I didn't get this image positioning added in yet. I had some other updates on my list that had to get done. I'll take a look at this first thing tomorrow morning (yes, I know it's morning already - ;) ). I had envisioned something fancy, but it may be easiest to just offer a drop-down list.
