Why would you ever lock the feature requests forum.....or any for that matter

The last thing one should do in an online community is stifle the flow and generation of information. This information is the lifeblood of the community itself and what makes the community. Above all, deciding what the product is about is absolutely a result of the members helping to determine what it should be, because when features are not relevant they are not used. Therefore it is of utmost importance that we continuously submit features. Managing this flow is the challenge of the community owner, and CollectiveX is supposed to be supplying the tools to make this more manageable. It is very surprising that a service owner would want to stop the flow of ideas from coming in: bad or good

I'm a little surprised that you would criticize this feature. After all, it is up to the discretion of Group Managers whether or not they would like to lock a forum or a topic. CollectiveX is in no way stifling the flow of information for any groups. Simply put: If you don't like the feature, don't use it.

There are a lot of uses for this feature, Jonathan, whether or not it fits all groups. Furthermore, it is a feature that almost all message boards provide the "managers"; we are not out of line here in the slightest.

For example:

- A locked forum is a perfect place for managers to place announcements to the entire group. This way, managers can control the creation of topics in that particular forum, while letting members post new topics in all the other forums. The topics can still be discussed in the locked forum, it just means that only managers can create those topics.

- A locked forum is also a good place to archive topics. For example, there is no reason for the Champions to allow users to create new topics in the "Closed Bug Reports" forum. Posts are not restricted, but new topics are. The obvious reason for this is that new bugs are supposed to go in the Bug Reports forum.

- A locked topic is a good way for a manager to stop a discussion if they feel it is inappropriate for the group. For example, if a topic has gotten out of hand, with bad language or insults, etc., a manager could lock the topic and edit or delete the offending posts.

I could go on forever providing examples of this feature, but it's truly a moot point. These features are only available to managers. We are only providing managers with more flexibility in how they manage their communities.

Hello Joe.
I was not referring to the feature. I was referring to the discussion in this community: "CollectiveX Champions"

Jonathan,

The name of the locked forum is "New and Upcoming Features" -- hence, topics are created by CollectiveX Management to share with CollectiveX users what's coming next or to announce what has just been released. We have an entire forum dedicated to "Feature Requests." The "Feature Requests" forum is used for submitting ideas -- which come from users like yourself. The "New and Upcoming Features" forum is locked because the CollectiveX Team ultimately decides what new features will be implemented... and when they will be implemented. Consequently, it is only the team is able to announce what's coming next.

I hope this helps you to understand why that particular forum is locked. Remember, you can post in any topic within that forum, you just don't have the ability to create new topics there.

We appreciate your involvement and participation in Champions.

Sincerely,
Clarence

@Clarence
Actually the Feature Requests forum is locked as well.

Well, that's definitely an oversight.

I'm very sorry.

It's fixed now.
