Members are automatically opt-in to discussions

My members are apparently being opt-in to each discussion that is started in the forum section. How do I prevent all of my members from receiving all threads, and getting overwhelmed with emails? Should they only be receiving threads that they opt-in to themselves?

We will be addressing this shortly, by adding a new permission control for discussion blasts, a checkbox whenever you post a topic or a reply to allow you to "opt-out" of being automatically subscribed to that thread, and likely some additional controls in the member profile area.
Thanks for bringing this to the forefront.
It is very important to us that our users view the email features of the application as a convenience and not a hindrance.
Here is an overview of how CollectiveX works as it relates to discussion blasts.
CollectiveX doesn't broadcast every time a message is posted. That only happens when all group members have been subscribed to a topic. At present, all group members can be subscribed to a topic upon initial post... if the topic starter checks the "email all group members" option when starting the topic. We are adding a control to enable managers to prevent this from happening.
The other way in which a member will receive all posts from a topic... is if he/she posts a reply to the topic. At present, it automatically subscribes you if you post a reply to a discussion topic. We are adding a checkbox so that you can immediately opt-out of subscribing to all future topic replies. The checkbox will appear next to the submit button when you are posting a reply to the topic.
Furthermore, if a manager chooses to alert all group members via email when he/she starts a new discussion topic, it will now only send them the initial post (and will not subscribe them to all future replies) via email. In order to receive future replies... included in the email, will be a link which enables the members to opt-in to replies.
I hope this helps. Expect to see these options within the next few hours.
Clarence and Joe,
Thank you for your quick response to this matter. I look forward to the update.

Okay, this new feature is live now. :)
Tomorrow, I'll work on adding the ability to see a list of all topics that you are currently subscribed to and provide checkboxes to easily subscribe/unsubscribe.
@Joe... It looks like we forgot to add the subscribe checkbox to the "Add a Reply" text box. Let's address tomorrow.
@Clarence - No, you're just already subscribed so it doesn't show up.
Our needs are the opposite. We want all members to subscribe to all topics as soon as a topic is created. Is there a way to do this?
Hi Dee,
Not exactly. This is what you can do with our current functionality. At the individual level, your members can go to My Settings; then My Preferences. Scroll down to "My Email Preferences" and select (By default, when replying to a discussion topic: subscribe me to that topic). I attached a screen shot.
Sincerely,
