Can I turn of the "Modify" entries in the Recent Activity widget?

Sometimes folks edit their events numerous times, and their "Modify" entries begin to stack up like 757's on the tarmack at O'hare. Is there a way to automatcally manage this to eliminate all the redundancy and clutter that results in the widget and email updates?

This is actually a bug you've discovered. They are already supposed to be folded into single entries, if they occur within an hour or so of each other.
I'll make sure we take a look at this.

This should now be fixed going forward - we'll take a look tonight at the possibility of "re-collapsing" existing records so that previous frequent updates will get folded into a single recent activity item.

"Modifies" are still appearing in my sites recent activity module and are not collapsing.

It's not that we won't show when an item is modified. Here is a generalization of how it works now.
If a recent activity entry is created for a modification occurring less than 3 hours after an entry for the same item - the prior entry is deleted. This means that the modification entry will remain in the log.
There are some exceptions, like photo gallery's which have a 1 hour window instead of a three hour one, and other things which are probably not relevant to your concerns.
We have also added some automated tests to verify that this does indeed happen. So, if you are having a specific problem we will add it to our quality control procedures to make sure that it doesn't happen again. For right now, I would need a specific example of this happening again because I can't find one in your activity log and the automated tests are all still succeeding.
