Which sub-groups are included in the notification e-mail

Hi - I'm trying to get my head around the notifications people receive when there's lots of public subgroups. Ideally I'd like it if people receive activity notifications only for the sub-groups they are a member of.
It seems like some people are getting notified of activities that happens in public sub-groups whether they are a member or not.
Is this the case? or am I missing somethng?
Thanks
Stephen

Hi Stephen,
Yes, everyone in your Groupsite (depending on their preference settings), will receive the recent activity for the roll up of Public Subgroups.
Public Subgroup discussions etc. function more like top level forums. Because they are public, everyone in the Groupsite will see what is happening regardless if they are members of the Subgroup. The Email notification functions like the activity that is captured in the recent activity module in the group.
Sincerely,
Celeste
OK - but I can see people getting annoyed at receiving notifications from groups they are not interested in. Are people able to set their notification settings on a sub-group by sub-group basis? And can we make it the default that people are opt-ed out for any new groups.
If that's not possible, how do other GroupSites that have a lot of sub-groups manage it?
thanks
Stephen
Hi Stephen,
Preferences are set at the top/main Groupsite level not at the sub group level . Each member can determine their own Email Frequency:
Here are the list of Email Preferences that each member can change:
I think the best workaround is to change the public subgroups to limited access.
