Put Widgets on your SubGroup page with RSS
Hi all,
Just wanted to share with you something that is working well for me. If you've ever wanted to add a widget to your subgroup homepage you've found that, well, you can't really do that. BUT, if the content that you want to use has an RSS feed your in luck!
Use a free service that takes an RSS feed url and spits out some nicely formatted html for you - the one that is working well for me on Groupsite is rssinclude.com .
So, grab an RSS feed from your subgroup, perhaps Discussions (scroll down to the bottom and copy the link next to RSS Feed). Take that link over to the service that you choose to use, again, I like rssinclude.com but search google to test out others if you like.
Once you have that code simply go to your subgroup homepage, click on Admin and then scroll down to "Additional Homepage Content", click on the HTML Source tab and paste in your code. VIOLA! You can now have widgets on your subgroup homepage. Remember, they don't only have to be Groupsite widgets either, anything with an RSS feed should work.
Another note, you may want to customize the appearance of how the widget is displayed on your subgroup homepage. I created a special design for this and carved up some html with a nice spot for the RSS feed.
Good luck!

Hi Bill - is your Groupsite private? Can you provide a link?
Thanks for sharing,
Marla
Hi Marla,
Sorry, the groupsite is private at the moment. Though it's supposed to launch in April. Here is a screenshot of the embeded rss. In this case I'm using a feed of jobs from Monster.com
Bill - thank you! This looks great!
Thanks :-) If you're trying to do something similar and get stuck let me know, maybe I can help.
