Replace file in file cabinet

Hello,

I'm wondering whether it is possible to replace a file in the file cabinet without disturbing the URL permalink to reference it.

The use case is as follows: I have a document stored in the file cabinet, to which I have sent URL permalinks to our GroupSite members. I need to update the file, but if I delete the old version and upload the new (even with the same file name), the file is stored with a different internal name, and the URL permalink is different. This of course breaks any links in previous email blasts / discussions / blogs etc.

I am not looking for a full version control system, just the ability to replace a file while keeping the URL permalink reference.

Thanks,

Nick

We have linked some of our file cabinet documents from our summary page in the html module. But then we needed to upload updated versions of those docs. I didn't see any way to do this. So I had to upload the file and delete the old one and then change the hyperlinks. Did I miss something or is there an easier way to update an existing doc in the file cabinet?

Oh, that could make my life easier, too.  Good ideas, Nick!

Thanks for suggesting this, Nick. We've opened a ticket to look into this under Ticket #2263. Stay tuned.

Hi, everyone. Good news! In the File Cabinet, you can now replace an existing file with a new one.

To replace a file, just click on the cogwheel to the right of the file you want to update. You'll notice a new field, "Upload a new file," where you can upload the replacement.

Any links you may have made to the URL of that file will stay intact.

Managers and/or the member who uploaded the original file have ability to replace the file. You can see screen shots here:

Thanks again for bringing this need to our attention. Ticket #2263 is now closed.
