Can permissions be set at the subgroup-level in which the members of the subgroup can NOT see the files at the main group level?

Sheri - The short answer is No. Here is why: To join a subgroup, you must first be a member of the overall Groupsite. The Groupsite is the house and the subgroups are separate rooms within the house.
If you find that a subset of your members are spending 100% of their time in just one one (subgroup) and have no need or interest to engage with other members of the house (main Groupsite), you should probably create a completely separate Groupsite just for them where they can have the entire house to themselves.
Subgroups have been designed to complement the needs of a Groupsite not to exist as stand-alone entities.
Hope that helps,
Shaun
Thanks Shaun. Using your house analogy, I can lock the door to a room right? For example, if I don't want everyone in the group to see the contents in a subgroup or the subgroup's files in the file cabinent, then I can control access by simply not allowing someone to become a member to the subgroup right?
Sheri - You are correct. Setting the visibility of a subgroup to "private" or "limited" is like locking the door to that room.
Shaun, I have a question which followings on from this. If I can change your 'house' analogy to an 'office' analogy I would like to think that a subgroup could become a 'meeting room'. i.e. generally this would include members of the office, but now and again we'd like to invite external members to the 'meeting room' in the office. We'd like these external members to view the contents of the 'meeting room' but not the rest of the office. Is there any way we could achieve this.
Does this make sense, or one analogy too far!?
Neil - Your analogy makes perfect sense and I understand the need to be able to include outsiders in on certain conversations or projects. This is not however, how our platform is designed with regards to subgroups.
We do have many clients who use us in the fashion you mention by not using subgroups but rather simply creating additional Groupsites.
Most of our larger clients have our Groupsite Pro Unlimited plan which allows for the creation of unlimited Groupsites with all of our features and no third party ads. They simply create a new Groupsite every time they need to gather a team. When someone has the need to be in multiple Groupsites, which most do, they siply use our Switch Groupsite feature to jup between Groupsites and enjoy the fact that they have a single log-in and password for all of their Groupsites.
Groupsite Pro Unlimited plans start with 1,000 paid seats at $2.50 per user per year for an annual total of $2,500.
If you don't mind the ads, you could accomplish the same thing with our free Groupsites.
I hope that helps,
Shaun
