Maximum Number of Replies or Character limits?

Is there a maximum number of replies or character limits on one discussion thread? We have a particularly popular thread and we can see the posts via the summary listing but when you go to the thread via the discussion forum you don't see all the posting.
Does it scroll off the page and or is not browsable at a certain point?

There was a long string of replies to a discussion topic. I posted on reply 5 or 6 and there were another dozen posts that followed. I deleted my posted by first editing then deleting. I was also a manager but I am sure I did not delete the thread as there are still some postings on the thread.
Is it possible that when I deleted my thread all the subsequent postings were deleted along with it? They are still available on a the summary list you see on the first page and you can click and read them but not in the discussion thread. If so, can they be restored?
