Creating New Folder in Sub-Group

I'm a bit puzzled and am unsure if there is a setting I need to set to get this right.  Here's the setup:

I created the groupsite and a sub-group.  I then invited "Joe" into the main groupsite where he is a member (not a manager).  I then invited Joe into the sub-group and made him an "Administrator" so he could have full functionality of the blog/topics/files, etc within the sub-group, but not at the main groupsite level.

The file cabinet permission at the Groupsite level is currently allowing any member to upload files.

Now - as the creator of the sub-group, I see the option to add a "New Folder" in the sub-group file cabinet.  "Joe", however, doesn't have the option and it appears he can only upload files to the sub-group folder, thus cannot organize his work.

What do I need to do to allow "Joe" the ability to create new folders, just in the sub-group?

I am having this same issue - bascially I cannot find a way to organize content UNDER the Subgroup level. We have a desperate need to create not just Discussion TOPICS under each subgroup, but multiple Discussion FORUMS.  Did you ever get this resolved? I did figure out how to create FOLDERS and SubFOlders under my subgroup headings (for uploaded files, docs, photos) - but not for Discussion Forums.

Any ideas?

I would rather like to have the option to take off File cabinet for attachment files in a discussion such as email attachment and Photos. I am having hard time educating new members about how to attach files as they have to do an additional step and all the files are going into a single folder by default.

Sanjay - We currently do not have the ability to let users remove any of the basic Groupsite features. Perhaps when we redo our text editor, we should move the attach files button to the Advanced Editor tab.

I personally like the idea of the Basic Editor tab having only Bold, Italic and Underline as the options and having everything else on the Advance Editor tab.

Alinean - This is a design issue not a bug. When we deployed Subgroups 1.0, we made the decision not to allow for subgroup forums (only topics) thinking it would help with keeping things simple.

I agree with you that we should allow for subgroup forums. It will take time and design work by our team to make this happen and it won't happen overnight but I will submit it as a valid enhancement request.

Thanks for pointing it out.

Hi Shaun - This is not about Text editor. I am trying to mention about taking off File Cabinet altogether for attachment files and photos. Just think of attaching a file into my gmail or yahoo email account. I don't use any file sharing system in between. I would like to avoid the extra step of uploading a file to the file cabinet and later selecting the file to attach it in the discussion. Members are missing this step and I am having hard time educating them.I did see lot of discussion boards having this features of attaching files. One of the forums that I frequently use is www.orafaq.com.  This is completely open source and implementing some of the best features that are worth looking at.

May be you can have an attachment limit for Free and Premium users.

Hi Shaun,

Regarding subgrouop Discussion Forums... we have a great deal of content we need to publish - in each of our three unique subgroups. Without the ability to organize by subject matter - i.e Discussion Forums at the Subgroup level - it will be a nightmare to manage and navigate.

Per your response "I agree with you that we should allow for subgroup forums. It will take time and design work by our team to make this happen and it won't happen overnight but I will submit it as a valid enhancement request"...

..could you give me a likelihood that this actually may be addressed?  And if so, the timeframe?  We have a deadline to get our group sites up & running (we've only been using internally so far to see if we like it)... and this is going to be a show stopper. We can't post & publish to our installed User & customer base as is.

Thanks in advnace for your answer... I relly like the ease of use of Groupsite.com offers, but this will be a killer for me.

Hi, Alinean. We fully agree we'd like to see this happen, and the likelihood we will address it is very high.  However, the "when" remains open -- as much as we'd love to, it's not possible for us to give you a time line for implementation. My best guess would be several months - and that is only a guess. Please feel free to contact me or Shaun directly if you'd like to discuss this further, or if there's anything else we can help you with!
