Customizing default invitation text?

Not in the way I think you are asking. You can customize the default text and save it as "Custom" invitation text, named as you so choose. However, to reuse it, the sender would first have to select this message using the"Choose Message" box within the 'Invite Members' page.

So, you can set it up so that other members don't have to "recraft" an invitation's message. What you can't do is make your invitations default to this customized text.

Thank You Diana. What you describe would be a helpful alternative. I looked on the Invite member page and couldn't figure out a way to create and save a custom message. Do I need to upgrade permissions to do this? Any additional instructions would be very helpful.

The ability to customize and save invitation text is a standard feature. To do this, go to the MANAGER tab and select the "Invite Members" sub-tab. Scroll down to the "Write your invitations" area and:

1 - Click within the text box to edit the existing text.

2 - Click the "Send Invitations" button.

3 - A pop-up window will appear. Type the name of your new invitation in the MESSAGE NAME box. Click SAVE AND CONTINUE.

That's it!

Then...

4 - Your group members can select the custom invitation from the drop-down list under "Choose Message."

The above is useful - however I think the preferable option would definitely be if the default invitation text could be customised by groupsite managers. People are less likely to use the function if they have to fiddle around selecting from drop-downs, and I am not convinced many would bother to do this.

I would be very grateful if Collective X could prioritise making this change as I think it would be very helpful to the growth of our group, and to others whose groups are open to the wider public.

I discovered some new information today:

1 - I was incorrect to say that once the custom invitation text is saved by Rikk, his members would be able to select it. This custom template will only be visible to other managers (even if the ability to invite others is enabled for members).

2 - Once a manager selects the custom invitation, the next time they visit the invitations page the custom invitation will appear as the default, even if they have logged out and logged back in. (They need only select it once.)

So, to answer Rikk's original question: Is there a way to customize the default text for groupsite invitation emails [for members]? No, not today.

Also, Mariam - thanks for the useful feedback. I've open a ticket for this enhancement (Ticket #1234) but no estimate at this time when it could be implemented.
