Has any decision been made on the functionality Blake described back in March? This is a hugely important feature for us as well (the ability to have multiple "forums" inside of subgroups") because we are utilizing subgroups as a way to segment conversations about our different solutions. Each solution has its own set of "topics" - ie. each product needs a help forum, a tutorials forum, a feature requests forum ect. This gets really really hard to keep track of when all of these types of discussions are flowing into the same pool.

I really hope this is a feature you guys have started working on, because for my team, it may mean having to start up an outside solution for our next product launch - which is NOT something we want to do. We really want all of our users to have the ability to search info on all of our product sets in one area, rather than having everything dismembered over multiple sites ect. (Hence the reason we don't have multiple groupsites for each product set- the product sets are too interrelated and many of our users use several of our solutions in an overlapping way- it would make no sence to segregate our info into entirely different sites)

DeAndrea,

Great rationale. We're looking into what it will take to accomplish. We're also re-evaluating our stance on expanded functionality within sub-groups. I'll post a response once we have a solution.

Question: What would you be willing to pay for this functionality? Does it increase the value of sub-groups enough that you'd pay more for it?

To be honest this is a feature I thought I would be getting anyway. This is not a new subject- I have asked about this several times before and have gotten a similar response- "we are evaluating this option". I think this is not a value-add feature but one that should have been considered in the beginning. If I would have realized this limitation when I created my groupsite, I most likely would have went with a ning site instead, which has this functionality built in.

DeAndrea,

I'm sorry to hear that your expectations were mismanaged by our team. I do not agree with your ning statement - but that's another matter. I just left you a voice mail with my contact information. Call me so that we can discuss further.

I like the subgroup feature, and have created several private subgroups. I would have expected all posts activity would only be displayed on the subgroup's main page. much to my surprise the entries appear on the main group page. Kinda defeats the purpose of a private, invitation only subgroup! Am I missing something?

Hi, Cathie. Activity from subgroups shows up in your "Recent Activity Updates" only if you are a member of that subgroup.  So, if your subgroup is private, it is still only visible to you and other members of that subgroup. (We'll see if we can't make that more clear in instances of activity for private and limited subgroups)!

Humm. Yet I see an item i posted on a priviate subgroup page, show up on the activity of the main site home page. To me that is not private at all. Is it because I am a site administrator and will see all activity. What other members of the subgroup post to the subgroup page also are listed on the discussion page of the main site. What am I missing?

Cathy, this action is still private even though you see it in the "Recent Activity Update" on your home page. The reason you see this information is because you are a member of that private subgroup. Members of the Groupsite who are not also members of that private subgroup don't see that information when they log-in.

An action, calendar event, file upload or discussion post that takes place at the subgroup level does filter up to the main group view for members of that subgroup. This allows subgroup members to get an integrated view of their activity, discussions, etc. for the entire Groupsite. However, as described above, what each member sees is tied specifically to the membership and login.

That's how private subgroup activity that appears on your main/ SUMMARY page still stays private. Hope this helps!

Ditto to everything DeAndrea siad - My needs & expectations mirror hers exactly.  It is a serious pain point. I too, beleived this to be built-in functionality, but to answer your questiosn - YES - I would be willing to pay for it. How much? I don't know... depends on the full feture set.

But like DeAndrea, we started using Groupsite withe full intention of creating three distinct User Groups - but started populating and experimenting with it with one User Group content - and are only now workign thru all the 'Subgroup' options - I guess I shouldn't have just assumed.

I would pay for this, because I really am happy with your feature set as a whole. My two cents... just tell me who I have to bother to escalate this addition!

I think this was mentioned before, but I can't seem to find it now.

When I click on the link in an email notification (Click Here to Join Discussion) for a subgroup, why am I not taken directly to that discussion? The same thing happens when I click on the link from my Main Group's Summary Page. Can you please change it so that the links actually take you to the discussion?

Along the same lines, it seems odd to be taken directly to the Discussion Forums page after creating a post in a subgroup. In the main site, you get to see what you've just posted before deciding where to go next.

Liza,

This is a known bug that happens at random. We are working to get it resolved. Sorry for your inconvenience.

Thanks! :) Are they both a related bug, or two different ones?

Please add in the "Network" section...where the individual profiles are provided... a list of the "subgroups" to which that member is currently subscribed. This would be very helpfull to "herd" members into the appropriate subgroups.

Doug-

I agree. Displaying sub-group information on each users profile page is on our list. Hopefully, we'll have it added before too long. Thanks for the suggestion. Smile
