This is what I see:

Request Invite

I should note that I am testing this while I am logged out, so that I can see what a new/prospective user will see.

Also, for some reason when you responded to my post Shaun, it is showing up as me having replied to myself... My picture is showing up on your response... very odd.

Deandrea,

  1. The link text has been fixed now - let us know if you see any other strangeness in this area and we'll make sure it gets taken care of.

  2. Shaun was logged in "support mode" masquerading as your account so that he could test the issue.  He just forgot to log out again before posting.  I'll just ahead update the record manually so it is clear that is was Shaun speaking and not you.

Is there a way to change the default of the 'Recent Activity' module on the main page of a subgroup to another option other than 'All'?

Hi Christa,

Right now subgroup modules are not configurable like their main group counterparts.

I posted a question back on January 14, but didn't receive an answer to my knowledge.  Should I expect an answer from CollectiveX or is that not how this discussion group works?  Did I do something wrong?

Steve - Sorry about that! The answer to your question is no, you cannot add additional pages to a subgroup.  Our more pages option is a Groupsite level feature only.

Hope that helps clarify things.

Shaun

I'm very new to Collective X.  My question is if I set my subgroups to "public", does that mean non-members of the main groupsite can see them or ONLY members of the main groupsite?  Thanks!

Cara,

Subgroup visibility never makes the subgroup more visible than the main group to whoever is viewing it.  It can only make it less visible.

I see that back in November someone asked about automatically adding members to sugroups, but didn't didn't get a clear cut anwer (so I'm guessing it's a no).

We're thrilled that we'll be able to use subgroups this year, but it's not going to be easy to pick a first and last name out of a drop down list of thousands and invite them to the group.  Among other problems with this is process, is that this method of adding members doesn't contemplate people with the same name being members.

Is there some way - on the back end maybe - that we (or ColectiveX) can add the members to the subgroup en masse?  It needs to be based on the answer to one of the profile questions.

Steve - Per our phone conversation, we agree that Groupsite Managers should have the ability to assign members to subgroups.  We have a ticket in for that enhancement and we look forward to making that available soon.  It will be a Premium Feature which you will already have access to since you already have our Premium Bundle.

I will let you know as soon as it goes live.

One of our group members unintentionally/accidentally declined a Subgroup invitation. Now, though, it seems we can't reinvite him to the Subgroup. No members were invited, with this error message appearing:

----------

Please select Groupsite members which are not already members of this subgroup.

Skipped 1 previously declined invitation: [profile name]

----------

Is it possible for this person to join this Subgroup? Is there a way to send new invitations in this situation? I expect this happens from time to time, whether unintentionally or whether someone later decides that they do want to join a particular Subgroup.

Thanks,

- Matthew

Just found a discussion that touched on this at http://champions.collectivex.com/post/how-to-re-invite-someone-who-accidentally-declined-to-join

We're giving the suggestion -- to change the Visibility of the Subgroup -- a whirl.

Thank you for finding that post and linking it here. I'm sure I'll need that info sometime soon. :)

Subgroup Membership

I recently created a Groupsite and (under the Free model) five Subgroups.

I chose the "Limited" option since I only want Groupsite members to be able to join. This was maybe my first point of confusion. It appears that the "Public" option will allow anyone to join the Subgroup, even non-Groupsite CollectiveX members and I certainly do NOT want that!

Q1: Is "Public" still restricted to Groupsite membership (as it seems to be indicated above in Clarence's 11/24/08 post? Or does "Public" truly open the Subgroup up to the entire CollectiveX world?

If the former is the case, I certainly want to change all my Subgroups to "Public" since I am getting inundated with requests!

Which brings me to my second question.

Q2: How do I approve folks for Subgroup membership?

I have EXHAUSTED the Groupsite and simply cannot find the page where Subgroup requests are managed. Please help!

V/r,

Jay

Jay - I know we spoke by phone but I thought I would answer here as well for the benefit of the entire group.

A1 - Subgroups can never be more open than the Groupsite to which they belong. If the Groupsite is "Private", and you make a subgroup inside that Groupsite "Public", that means anyone who is already a member of the Groupsite may join the subgroup. It does not mean any non-Groupsite members can join. In fact, you can never join a subgroup unless you first join the Groupsite.

A2 - Unlike Groupsites, (where you can approve membership requests), subgroups currently do not have this feature.  If you set a subgroup to "Limited" visibility, a Groupsite member can request an invitation.  The administrators of the subgroup will receive an email to this effect and if you wish to allow this person into the subgroup, you must send them an invitation through the subgroup.

We look forward to streamlining this process in the future.

Hope that helps.

Shaun
