Sidebar problems

I have a couple of toys in my sidebar, and would like to add another. However, the "add module" button at the bottom does not allow me to do anything, only choose a kind of module, then cancel.
I know there have been sidebar discussions here recently, and I've read all I can find, but I have not seen this problem described.
Does anybody have any ideas? Thanks
