Privacy Settings for FREE Groupsites

Hi Celeste!

I've been a proud Groupsite.com user for a few years now...since July 2008. I absolutely love this concept, and I have recommended it to many of my friends, family, and colleagues. I use Groupsite for my ministry, and despite the growing pains and glitches over the years, platform has served us well (speaking of the glitches, THANK YOU  for always responding so quick to the concerns and ideas).

I am sure you have heard from many members about the recent changes Groupsite features.  Due to these changes, I have had to upgrade one of my Groupsites to the $50 monthly package. I understand and fully support the need to seize the opportunity to turn a profit that would support your teams' work; however, I have to admit there is one change I was quite disappointed to find: all FREE Groupsites are PUBLIC.

As I stated previously, this concept/platform has served my ministry VERY well, and one of the main reasons is because I was able to promise my members their information was protected because of the privacy feature. My ministry is non-profit...and while I chose to upgrade one of my Groupsites, I cannot afford to upgrade again so that I'm able to control the privacy settings.

My ministry handles very sensitve information in a number of settings including, a mentoring program, tutoring program, and faith-based counseling program for "at-risk" youth and their families.  Our Groupsite is where much of our most effective communication takes place. Having to tell my members that their information is no longer secure because I cannot afford the upgrade would be disastrous for the ministry. Charging a fee to members to offset the cost of another upgrade is not an option because most of these families are low-income and/or living below the poverty level and cannot afford to pay for anything, including an opportunity designed to improve their life circumstances.

I've looked at other sites (Facebook, etc.) but nothing compares to what you offer at Groupsites. The only thing I'm asking is for the ability to control the privacy settings on my Groupsites. "Limited-visability" (front-page view only) works well in some cases, however, "total privacy" is necessary in others.

Please advise! I look forward to hearing from you!

God bless!

Hi Trish,

I am sorry for any inconvenience that our recent changes have caused for you!  I do want to clarify that the "privacy settings" should have been "Grandfathered" for any "Free" Groupsite created prior to June 27, 2011.  Please contact me directly to discuss your specific Groupsites.  Please email me at support@groupsite.com and please make it attn: Celeste

Sincerely,

I actually want my group being public, which is why I was glad to find this place after abandoning Bigtent.

But there's one issue I have concerning privacy as well. Not the visibility of the group, but that of my first and last name on email notifications.

I use my social profile on my own group, so going to the site, you won't see my first and last name.

However, digests that notify of new discussions, blog posts etc. always have this descriptor which voice-over reads: "Profile image for (Firstname Lastname)

How come, and is there a way to make it say "Profile image for Miss Capri" my social profile identity instead?

Thanks.
