Adding YouTube videos to your Groupsite

Embedding videos from sites like YouTube into your group’s summary page description area or discussion topic posts.

Here are the steps:

1) Go to YouTube or a similar video sharing sites such as Revver and Metacafe and search for the video of your choice then click to view it.

2) You’ll notice a small text box to the right of the video proceeded by the word embed. Simply copy the embed code. See screen grab below:
Attachment.

3) Return to your Groupsite and paste the embed code into the group’s summary page description area by clicking the edit link (edit links are only visible to group managers) or paste the embed code directly into the discussion message text area.

The problem with this is that we need a place for these videos. The Summary page of a group is not typically the best place for any video. A video would relate better to a particular discussion than the Summary page

Jonathan,

We will be adding icons for video, widget, image and html insertions into discussions and the group summary page.

The icons will make adding various media to your discusions and elsewhere very simple. This functionality wil be available very soon.

In the meantime, please note that you can insert videos anywhere that you see a *(formatting tips)* hyperlink underneath the text entry box.

Jonathan, you could always start a discussion that's just a title and a video. Then people can comment on it.

This is getting better and better! Thanks.

This is a really great tip. I added a discussion called Group Chat and then embedded a Meebo room so my team could do some real-time chatting. It really is easy. I'd love to see the ability to add a limited number of "pages" so things like this could be created without adding a new discussion topic. That said, it can still be done so I have no complaints.

Good tip; I implemented this on the summary page.

Under 'HTML Source' you can also increase or reduce the size of the video, by altering the contents of the width and height tags. Take care however to reduce or increase both in the same proportion, so that the aspect ratio is maintained, else the video would look distorted.

How do you add a WMV video?

Hi Tim,

If you want others to be able to view a video presentation from
your Groupsite, you can embed it into a Content Module.
Here are some links that will help:

Embedding the video as described above does require the video to be
hosted on the web; some free resources for video hosting and sharing
include Vimeo (http://www.vimeo.com/) and YouTube (http://www.youtube.com).
