Features that could add more value to CollectiveX ...

Let me first thank the team for bringing up this wonderful tool. Believe me, I am planning to spend thousands of dollars to create a site/forum that has exactly the same features as CollectiveX. I am planning to take a premium account to best make use of the features. It's worth it. I am managing two groups on LinkedIn and Google and planning to introduce CollectiveX to my group members.
Features that I am looking for in the new versions:
* Ability to attach documents for a topic in Discussion.
* Instant Messaging and Chat feature between members.
* A more better Profile creation system similar to LinkedIn.
Look forward to have these features on this wonderful tool.

Sanjay - Thanks for your feedback.
1. You can already attach documents inline with a topic reply, simply select the "paperclip" icon which is the last one on the right of the Basic Editor tab.
2. Many groups have chosen to insert 3rd party chat widgets in the sidebar of their summary page (see the Summary page of this group for an example). This functionality along with IM will not be part of our next release but we are looking into ways to make it happen as long as we can keep it simple enough for all users to easily take advantage of regardless of technical expertise.
3. Not to sound snobbish, but there is very little about Linkedin (besides their number of users) that we wish we did better. We humbly think we already are (as does Mike Arrington of Tech Crunch who said, "CollectiveX is the way Linkedin should've been done in the first place")
What specifically do you find better about their profile system?
Thanks,
Shaun
Hello Sanjay,
I'm curios, why would you want to spend thousands of dollars to create a site/forum that has exactly the same features as CollectiveX? Or did you mean you were planning to on doing that before you found CollectiveX? Wouldn't it make more sense to stay here and simply pay a small service fee to add your own domain name?
I think the only barrier might be for group owners to pay extra to get rid of all external advertising, but that would cost $9/100 members, or about $1.08 per member/year. Actually, not too bad if we could get our own members to cover these costs, or maybe find a sponsor who could commit to such costs regardless of group size.
But frankly, so far I've had NO problems with ads on our Music PAL Forum site. I've seen a few generic networking ads, mostly sponsored by CollectiveX and some cool looking Symphony Orchestra ad banners which ties in perfectly with our music industry related theme and purpose.
Just my 2 cents!
Michael
Shaun,
Ofcourse, you were absolutely right and LinkedIn is no way closer to CollectiveX with respect to features. The Profile System of CollectiveX falls is not an exception. My note is very minor and I thought I could mention if you find anything interesting about it. When I saw my profile on LinkedIn it is more closer to my resume with a brief Summary followed by professional experience, education, interests etc. which found to me more readable.
Once again, I sincerely thank the CollectiveX team for bring up this amazing tool.
Michael,
I am gonna stay with CollectiveX.
Sanjay,
Cool, I like it too and plan to stay!
Michael
