Rights to be provided by Admin for discussion groups.

We have recently setup a group site and I have provided the Manager rights to couple of people. But my objective is to really make them Manages for the discussion groups. Is there a way whereby I can provide them rights only for the groups that they own..?

Can we provide admin rights to only few..and the managers have access to Group discussions.?

Avinash

As of today, CollectiveX does not have role-based permissions. However, our upcoming release will enable you to do what you are requesting. Stay tuned!

Hi Clarence,

I would love to know if there is a way to create subgroups within CollectiveX or if you are planning to release this feature soon?  I have subgroups of members who are working on projects that other members do not need to see.  I'd love to create a discussion area and file/media area that only certain members can see without having to make these members managers.  Thanks in advance for your help.

Lethia - Our upcoming "tags" feature will cover this.  More to come as soon as the new release goes live.

The ability to create subgroups will be so cool.  Another quick question, is there a way to set discussions so the newest posts always appear first?  It is frustrating to have to reset this option every time I enter a lengthy discussion.  Thanks in advance for your help.

That frustrates us as well and we are fixing that also with this next release.  You will be able to choose how you view your discussions. Smile

Hi

I am really looking forward to both the above features. i.e. multiple roles assignments & fixing the default view of the topic - (bugs me too big time...)

My specific interest, like Avinash, is to assign 'forum manager' roles rather than ‘group manager' role - this is a feature that'll create a sense of ownership for the site among the ‘forums managers' apart from the ‘ever-eager' group manager & am hoping that this may translate into a larger group engagement - which is the real intention. But I also feel that it is right to still leave the overall control to the group manager/ creator of the group.

Having said this, I now wonder what privileges would we assign to "Forum Managers"? - I guess they could be;

- A visible title/ role (which is already there, but can it be more vivid?)

And ONLY for the assigned Forum/ group of forums being able to;

- email blast of topic

- edit the topics

- email topics to pending members

- 'export' member database (this could be perceived as a real privilege....) but not to ‘manage members' otherwise

The group manager however should have the rights to review/ retract the assigned roles based upon performance/ cooperation.

Will the soon-to-be-released version take care of these aspects?

Vis, I like your request for some key users (based on role) to have the ability to export the member roster (incl contact information) to Excel or other CSV.  There are many reasons to allow this considering the groupsite manager won't always be the person creating mailing labels, contacting members by phone, etc.

Regarding rights for different types of users (or roles), I hope I can create some sort of Wiki out of that functionality.  For example, I create a webpage on the site and give certain users EDIT privileges to change the page... but they would not have other Admin privileges so the site won't be compromised.

I see that the questions about other users' permission, for instance, discussion forum managers versus a groupsite manager were post a few months ago. Can anyone tell me if the capability to give a user only forum permissions is available?
