OpenID Integration

I talked with Shaun about this earlier today and wanted to post this in the forum to get some feedback. I would like to see Collective X set up OpenID so I can access my Groupsites along with my other hosted business applications from a single sign-on. Specifically we use Basecamp (which currently supports OpenID) and I would like to keep all of my SaaS apps together - just need some simplification. Thoughts? Anyone else use a SaaS that utilizes OpenID? - Kurt

Hi Kurt, This would be a good feature. Is this planned for the next release.?
Regards,
Avinash
I think this is a nice feature, but would very much so defeat the purpose some groups have of being a business group, and of being locked out to the "public". We want people to register before they can view certain portions of our site, and we wouldnt want this to be comprimised. Would open id interfere with this?
Not saying that any "Open Social" would harm anyone system or network.. but because this is a new markup and still in some stages of development.. I would have to say, if it considered a "third Party" software, then anything is possible.. I have encountered some of these issues at other networks.. and right now everyone is striving to create something new and different to have other come to them for this service..
when one rushes to complete something with out testing.. then Yes it can be very dangerous and could allow for "Back Doors" and many other corrections.. again I'm not saying anything here would and I'm not pointing any fingers.. I'm just saying as a rule, if the developers of the network (meaning Collectivex) approve something after testing it.. then I would have to say it can be trusted.. But there is always that outside chance that something can or could happen..
Thats not exactly what I meant by unwanted entrance...
What I really meant was, if openid was used, would people need to register to join a subgroup? My understanding of open id is that you don't need to register to get into a particular site, you would just log in and be able to see everything.. is this correct? Or would their be some sort of approval process for people to get into limited visibility subgroups?
In some instances.. I feel your right.. But from my understanding.. Open Social is where all you need is one account which allows you access to many sites and services.. all at once.. again just from what I have read.. So true if someone has an Open Social account no matter where they registered it.. and they are allowed to enter your network without registration via your network, then yes this could be an issue..
