Creating a sub group within a group

Hi there,

I don't know whether this feature is already available...but I have not been able to find it if it is available.

Ok..so here is what i am looking for:

If i create a group for the members community...can i further create a sub group for members based on their interest...like Sales, Marketing. So this would be a closed group and ideally should be done within one group site itself..?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Avinash

Avinash - Today we handle this type of need by having the "sub-group" simply create a new Groupsite and then they can use our quick switch function to jump between the two and the view-all mode to search across both.  Our upcoming release will introduce the concept of "tags" which will allow you to "tag" certain members to give them access to certain functions of the groupsite which should handle this as well.

Thanks Shaun. Appreciate your input.

Shaun, How much time will it take for the new functionality of tagging to be enabled..?

Tagging will be part of our next major release.  We have not announced a firm public release date but it will be in the next few weeks.

Hi Shaun - any more info on when Tagging will be available? Cheers...

We are working diligently on getting the next release out the door this month.  There are a lot of new features (tagging being one) that are part of this release. We are not introducing any new features by themselves between now and the release.

It will be very much worth the wait. Smile

Great news, thanks Shaun.

Shawn, I look forward to the Tagging feature because I have a set of groups on the system that really should tie into each other.

I'm assuming the tagging feature didn't make it to this lastest release?  Any idea of when it will be unveiled?

Thanks in advance,

Eugene

Eugene - WE are taking both sub-groups and tagging through another round of design review to ensure a smooth integration when we add them. Instead of driving everyone crazy anticipating a specific launch date, they will probably just appear on a random Tuesday.

I wish I could be more specific but we need to do these right and I would rather under-promise on time and over-deliver on performance.

Shaun

Thanks Shaun,

I absolutely understand the need for design review, and thank you for your prompt reply.  While we're on the subject of sub-groups and tagging, I'd like to suggest a few things about sub-groups:

1.  Allow a sub-group to have their own group blog, but make it a page that can be removed if you're a premium content customizer.

2.  Also allow a sub-group to have their own discussion forum, also removable if the manager wants to.

3.  Allow the manager, or sub-group manager, to specify whether other people in the network can read or post to the sub-group blog, forum or comments.

4.  Have an easy option to e-mail blast all the members in the sub-group.  I'm thinking of a button that would auto-fill the tagging criteria, so you don't have to do it yourself.  This would be helpful if you have a lot of sub-groups.  Hopefully an additional button won't clutter the page.

I'll be sure to post more when I think of them!

Thanks

Eugene

Hi Shaun,

It's been a few months, but my group is still deciding between CollectiveX and hiring a private developer.  Has there been progress on the sub-group front, and the tagging?  What features can we expect, and is there any development timeframe?  Weeks?  Months?  Years?

Thanks

Before you cut your Thanksgiving turkey. Smile

Shaun,

I am the manager of one group that has been in touch with another group's manager.  Her group's members are very much in alignment with our group's objectives.  We would like her member's to be able to join my group and my members to join her group.  Is that possible? If so, what  is the best way to facilitate an easy exchange of membership sign ups.

Thanks,

Allan

 Allan,

An easy way to exchange memberships is to simply post a notice in your site, and one in hers, that says:

We're offering a shared membership to (Blank), to join simply click the link below: http://e-iwc.collective.com

Note: I used mine as an example..
