Hi,

I'm trying to upload some videos that are between 120MB - 350MB but i'm struggling significantly. Is there a maximum file size that I can upload? Any other suggestions?

Thanks,

Jo

Hi Jo.  We're happy to help. Are you trying to upload a video into your file cabinet or is it something you'd like to display in your Groupsite?

If it's something you'd like added to your file cabinet, keep this in mind:

We recommend that you keep single file maximums around 25 - 50 MB, although technically you can probably upload a single file up to ~150 MB. (Last time I checked, that's the max our tech staff told me!)

The case for not uploading extremely large files is that the larger the file, more likely the upload will fail due to some inherent limitation with http connection. We've done what we can to improve the upload process, but there are some aspects of upload that we can never support adequately - the strength and stability of connection on the user's end, for example. And 150 MB or more can also be a painfully slow download time for members, depending on the speed of each member's internet connection, computer configuration and settings, computer memory, network capacity, etc.

If you want others to be able to view a video presentation from your Groupsite, you may be able to embed it into a Content Module. Here are some links that may help:

Embedding the video as described above does require the video to be hosted on the web; some free resources for video hosting and sharing include Vimeo (http://www.vimeo.com/) and YouTube (http://www.youtube.com).

Hope this helps!

Hi Susan,

Thanks for this - I was trying to upload it to the file cabinet in a subgroup, I dont want them to be visible to all in module content. The file sizes were from 120MB to 350MB. If your max file size is 150MB that explains why some worked and some didnt. I dont really think theres a solution to this, as i dont want to host them on vimeo as they arent for general sharing.

Thanks anyway!

You are welcome Jo.  I don't know all the particulars, but you can have a private vimeo channel and that may be a possible solution for your use case.  Here's a link to vimeo privacy settings:  https://vimeo.com/help/faq/managing-your-videos/privacy-settings#are-private-videos-indexed-by-search-engines
