Reminder alerts for calendar events

I brought up this request a while back, it would be nice if we can have reminder emails sent out for calender events. Currently, we sent out a group email to remind everyone of upcoming events, would be nice to have the ability to setup an automatic reminder. Most group/calender tools offer this feature (i.e. yahoo groups, exchange).

Margo - I like that idea as well. We will look at including that with Groupsites Vers. 2 (V2) that is in the lab and coming soon.

I support this idea. It is certainly an idea that has been floating around for a while. It is particularly relevant for my group which makes the calendar of events central.
I am considering moving a group to this site from other providers (Y! & G) and quite frankly the Calendar Alerts is a major roadblock. I have seen some others that let the user choose Calendar alerts - text or email, and how far in advance (minutes, hours, days) prior to that the alert is enabled. I see your post that something along this line could be in the next release, but that was mentioned in May. Is this still in the works and what is the timeline?
Bob - Calendars alerts are a great request and we look forward to having that ability. They will not make this next release, however. Sorry. I do agree that they are a needed feature.

It is important for our group as well. It is a major benefit. We can use RSVP function sort of like a "forced" reminder, but that requires human intervention. I noticed Ning also lets you send messages to groups of folks based on whether they have RSVP'd, Pending, Not Responded, Not attending, etc. That, too, is nice.
Chris - I also like the idea of being able to email blast subsets based on Calendar event response status. We'll take it to the whiteboard and see how we can make it happen.

Of course, I'm very interested in this, too, and am adding my vote that this become high priority. :)
I agree too! I had just assumed that the Groupsite's calendar emailed everyone and hence we had a bunch of folks miss a meeting when it didn't. I would love to hear when this functionality is going to come online.

Just wanted you to know that this is rapidly becoming the most-requested feature of our group members, in addition to the ability of the event creator to get notifications of RSVPs and comments.

Note that Meetup.com has automatic event reminders that go out 14, 7, and 1 day before the events.
