If a member is removed will their posts also be deleted?

TWIMC:

I'm using Groupsite for a two-week group conversation as part of a larger client project. I will be involving some contributors who will participate only for a day or two. Here is my question:

If I remove those short-term contributors from the system, will their posts be lost as well?

If you can let me know, I would appreciate it. Thanks!

Hi Jeff,

No, if you remove a member, their contributions to your Groupsite will NOT be lost. All contributions such as discussion posts, member objectives, calendar entries etc. remain.  As a Groupsite manager, you can later decide to delete discussions or calendar entries posted by the former member.  The one item that responds differently is "Member Objectives".

The reason is "Member Objectives" are added by the member from their "My Settings" tab.  Because of this, even as a Groupsite Manager, you cannot delete "Member Objectives" added by one of your members.  You can ask the member to remove their objectives before leaving your Groupsite, or you can ask support@groupsite.com to do it for you.

Please keep in mind that Support can only do it as long as you have NOT already removed the member.  After the member has been removed, even Support cannot remove their "Member Objectives".  Once a member is removed, the only way to remove their "Member Objectives" is from the back end and a developer would have to do this.  We would only do this if the content posted in Member Objectives was inappropriate .

Sorry for the long response:)  We hope this helps!

Sincerely,

Hi Celeste:

Thanks for this information. Just to be clear, discussion posts from removed members will not go away when the member is removed from the site, right? Can you give an idea of how those posts will appear in the discussion area? Just want to know what to expect.

Thanks again,

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

A Discussion Post from a member who has been removed will NOT go away.  After the member has been removed, the Discussion Post(s) itself will not change, but the former member's Avatar next to the post, identifying who made the post, will change.

For example, when a member is removed from a Groupsite, if that member uploaded a "Profile Photo", the profile photo will also be removed, leaving behind Groupsite's generic Avatar for either a male, female, or not specified.  However, the former member's name  next to the post will remain.

Additionally, when you are a member of a Groupsite, if another user clicks on your Avatar next to your discussion post, that user will land on your specific profile page and be able to view your profile.  But when a member is removed from your Groupsite, and a user clicks on the remaining generic Avatar next to the former member's post, the user will land on the Groupsite's Members Profile page, but that member's profile is no longer available.

I hope this is not too confusing.  If you have additional questions, please write us back.

Celeste
