Overview Google Map

Any change you are able to put all members with addresses on a Google Map overview so that one can see where everyone's location is in one view?

I now use: NLP Coaches in Nederland

but it would be great if it integrated with CollectiveX.

That's definitely a neat idea.

Joost - I love your map - how did you do it? I'd like to add something like that to my group. Please share, I'd appreciate it - thanks!

Sergey.

Did you see the new version I build? http://community.nlpkring.nl/main/summary

It is very easy. Go to maps.google.com Log in and create a custom map. Then go to your CollectiveX group and search a member in Member section that has entered his address. Now press the Google map button. This will take you back to Google Maps with a remark whether you want to save the location. Select your custom map and save it. Now Google gives you the opportunity to add information, even rich HTML info.

So I have for all my coaches, their website, adres, telephone number, email, NLP level and Personality type and a picture in the Google map. All info is copied from their CollectiveX account.

Most important though, members have to send me an email to request being added to the map. I wont do it without a request and permission.

So my hope is that CollectiveX automates the process. First tag a member than have it automatically send to a custom map. The Joomla plugin I used in the first example is FOSS I think so it should be easy to copy to procedure to CollectiveX.

Awesome, thanks! Yes, I've actually first seen the new version on your summary page, only then found this post, trying to figure how to do that.

It would be great if CollectiveX had a feature to export selected contacts via GeoRSS feed or KML file (in addition to XML that's already there). It can then be fed directly into Google Maps, creating something like your map automatically.

I found a way to map your group visitors based on their IP addresses.

Similar idea, but not sure if it's what you're looking for.

You'll get a button that looks like this (which they say you're welcome to
change however you want):

Geotargeting

I took the following from their website:

How we make these cool maps

Making these maps is actually pretty easy
for a competent programmer. The two main tools are the free Google
Maps API
which plots a latitude and longitude that you supply,
and our own Zipwise
Geotargeting Database
that lets you look up the latitude and
longitude of a visitor's IP address.

When a visitor comes to our web site, our server takes their
IP address and searches the Zipwise Geotargeting Database to find
their latitude and longitude.

Once we have the visitor's latitude and longtitude, it is passed
along with the 100 other most recent visitors' coordinates to the
Google Maps API. Using the JavaScript that is part of the Google
Maps API, we then display the map on the web page.
