Allow managers to reset passwords

I have had a couple of requests to reset passwords for members who have moved email addresses and have not been able to access their original sign-in or use the "forgotten password" feature. It would be nice if managers had this ability.

I agree with Gareth this would be a nice additional feature.

We could also use a way to see all the email addresses assigned to our groupsite and be able to delete them or dissassociate them with our groupsite.

I currectly have a situation where a newly invited member forwarded the invite message to someone else who then registered with that invite.  I removed that person and resent the original person the invite and they registered, but now I cannot invite the person who used the forwarded message because the system as her email assigned to my groupsite behind the scenes.

A member has lost her password- I can't figure out how to reset it or how to guide her to do so. Help?

anywhere there is a login - there should also be a "forgot password" link - if she clicks that, password will be sent to her registered email (which hopefully she still has access to)

+1 to manager pw resets.

We constantly have members on our current site (not yet groupsite!) who get into vaporlock with bad email addresses and need admin assistance to sort it out, so it's nice to be able to do that.  Sending them to the automated process sometimes feels akin to saying "I don't care about your problem, deal with it yourself."

My member still cannot access her account and when she clicks on the "forgot password" nothing appears - the system message is that it cannot find anything as it may have been deleted.

How can we reset her password? I have tried deleting her from the system to try and re-enter her info but that doesn't work either.

Help?

Hi, Carol - if a user is having trouble, we can always help. Please write to us at support@groupsite.com with the name of your Groupsite, the name of the member, and her email address if you have it.  Members are also welcome to contact us directly.

I dont think my members really understand that there is an additional level of support (i.e., the Groupsite team) behind the website. They just assume that I am the creator of the site. Therefore it confuses them if we refer them on elsewhere

Allowing managers to re-set passwords is a really important feature.

Even with small membership numbers there is always somebody who forgets their password, their email address or both! At the moment it's a real pain to manage this situation.

Hi, Richard -

  • A member can reset their password at any time by clicking on the "Forgot Password?" link, located on the login page of any Groupsite. For example, on https://champions.groupsite.com/login.

  • A "forgot password" link is also located under in the sidebar box login area, visible on the home page of Public and Limited visibility Groupsites:

Attachment.

  • As a Groupsite Manager, you can refer a member to reset their passwords from those links.

  • If the member has forgotten their User Name (email address), you do also have access to this from the "Manage Members" area of your Groupsite. You can provide this information to the member. You can even issue a password reset on behalf of a member by visiting the login page, clicking "Forgot Password" and entering the member's User Name (email address).  The password reset link will be emailed to that member.

  • For security purposes, the member does have to have access to their email, receive the password reset link, and create the new password themselves.

  • If a member does not have access to the verified email address associated with their user account and also cannot remember their password, we cannot securely validate that member's account.  In this case, the member should rejoin the Groupsite under a new email address.  The manager can then delete the old membership from the Groupsite. This will leave the "old" membership's posts and contributions in the Groupsite, but it will remove the "old" profile.

  • Lastly: if the member does remember their User Name (email address) and Password, but simply does not have access to that email account any longer, the member can still log-in to their Groupsite. In this case, the member should log-in and change the email address associated with their user account. Once the member verifies the new email address (from a verification link sent to that email), they can delete the old email address for their profile. Here's an FAQ that shows how: http://champions.groupsite.com/post/how-to-change-email-addresses

I think this solves what you're looking for, but if I've misunderstood let me know.

One point to keep in mind with regard to security is that just because you are the manager of a group that a user is in doesn't mean you can have administrative access to a user's account.  Remember, you can be a member of many groupsites, all under one user account.  So if we allowed a manager to change a user's password or add an email address to user's account, they would then be able to log into that user's account.  That could potentially grant that manager access to other private groups that the user is a member of, which would make the managers of those groups very unhappy.
