Subgroup managers unable to create new topics in discussion forum

I've noticed that when the checkbox "Prevent non-managers from creating topics" is checked in the forum settings of a subgroup, a user account that is a subgroup manager without being a groupsite manager can see the button "create new topic" on the page presenting the discussion topics, but when clicked, nothing happens.

(Since the subgroup manager is allowed to edit the forum's setting, it can temporarily allow all members to create topics in order to create his new topic, but this seems an akward work around.)

Hi Marcel,

I want to ensure that we are on the same page.  Is your comment about Subgroup Managers not being able to create "Discussion Forums" or "Creating new topic"?

For Discussion Forums:
A Groupsite Manager sets the permissions to allow "Only Managers" or "All Members" to create Discussion Forums.  The default is "Only Managers" and you require premium permissions to allow "All Members" to create a "Discussion Forum".   This cannot be changes by a subgroup manager unless they are also a main Group manager.

For Creating a New Topic:
In a main Groupsite, by default, all members are allowed to create a topic in a main Groupsite Discussion Forum.  However, in a subgroup Discussion Forum, subgroup managers/admins (even if he/she is not a main group manager), has the ability to Prevent non-managers from "Creating Topics" in the "subgroup Discussion Forum.  This feature is useful because a subgroup can currently have only one discussion forum.  This feature helps the subgroup manager to control the number topics created in the subgroup forum. Members of the subgroup can still reply to the topic unless the topic is locked.
A member/user that is a subgroup manager without being a Groupsite manager would always be able to create new topics in a  subgroup discussion forum.

Are you having a problem with this functionality?  If so, please let me know the name of the Groupsite and the subgroup in which the problem occurs? You can write to us at support@groupsite.com.

Hello Celeste,

My comment is about Subgroup Managers (who are not Groupsite Manager) not being able to create "new topic" when "Prevent non-managers from creating topics" is checked in the forum settings of a subgroup.

My observation is that while Celeste's statement that "A member/user that is a subgroup manager without being a Groupsite manager would always be able to create new topics in a  subgroup discussion forum" is the way it should work, it is not the way it actually works. Under those conditions, the button to create new topic is displayed when login as a subgroup manager, but the button does nothing (it does not lead to a page from which a new topic can be saved/posted), which is why I think that this is a bug. (When the "Prevent non-managers from creating topics" setting is off, then the button to create new a new topic does lead to  is checked a page from which a new topic can be saved/posted.

Please verify if this is something that happens irrespective of the groupsite / subgroup at issue; I will email support@groupsite.com as suggested to provide you with the precise case where I noticed this bug.

Hi Marcel,

Thanks for the clarification!  To your point:

Under those conditions, the button to create new topic is displayed when
login as a subgroup manager, but the button does nothing (it does not
lead to a page from which a new topic can be saved/posted), which is why
I think that this is a bug.

Yes, this is a bug.  Clicking on the "Create topic button" as a subgroup manager, when the "Prevent non-managers from creating topics" setting is checked, should lead to a page from which a new topic can be posted.

We are investigating this bug under ticket # 17920041.  We will let you know when we have an update on this ticket.

Hi Marcel,

I am happy to report that ticket # 17920041 has been resolved.  Now when you click on the "Create topic button" as a subgroup manager (who is not a Groupsite Manager), when
the "Prevent non-managers from creating topics" setting is checked, will lead to a page from which a new topic can be posted by the subgroup manager (who is not also a Groupsite Manager).

Please let us know if you continue to experience a problem.

Sincerely,

Celeste Sharper Wooten
