Inconsistent Profiles

Greetings,
I've had a couple instances in which I've tried to delete profiles and they don't get fully deleted. When I search for them they show up but when I click on that profile it takes me to the entire member profile list and they aren't there.
Any thoughts about what is going on and how to resolve this?
