Issue with Youtube Embed

I'm not quite sure what I did wrong but when I went to embed a youtube video in one of our posts it did not embed correctly. Instead I got this when I went and posted the video in our discussion under the advance editor tab:

Radiohead - House of Cards Video

Inner Frame - http://www.youtube.com/embed/8nTFjVm9sTQ

Radiohead - House of Cards

Video made by Iowa State University Professor Song Zhang's research equipment.

Is there suppose to be a player that pops up in place instead of the inner frame link? I couldn't find any instructions as to if I was doing embed process wrong or if it is just a bug.

Thanks for your help.

I'm interested in this subject as well, since I've tried to imbed a Youtube video, using the html editor, and nothing happened or displayed.

Hi Capri,

Did you follow the instructions provided in our Group Blog:

http://champions.groupsite.com/post/how-to-embed-a-widget-for-dummies-like-me

If you followed these instructions and are still experiencing a problem, please write to us at support@groupsite.com.

I figured it out. YouTube has changed their embed code and what you have to do is paste in their legacy embed code for videos to embed.

1. Follow the steps specified by Groupsite that are listed below my steps

2. When you are looking at your YouTube, first click the share button.

3. When that menu comes up, then check box below the code they give you that says 'Use old embed code [?]' This then changes the code to their legacy embed code from there new iframe code. Copy and past into groupsite discussion editor that is for inserting videos.

I would say currently right now that Groupsite does not support iFrames within their framework. If you follow these steps you should have no problem. I would hope in the future this problem will be addressed, or hopefully be able to implement something like Facebook where all you have to do is paste in the URL.

Steps listed from Groupsite.

- You want to select the filmstrip-looking icon that is on the bottom row, 2nd from the right.

In the window that pops up, paste your embed code than hit "INSERT."

- You will return to our WYSIWYG editor where you can add additional text and other elements to your module.

- Add any additional text or elements you may want to include in this module and hit "SAVE."

I tried that as well, but from within the "add module" rather than the free form text module. Only because there's an accessibility issue and telling me to select and click images presents a problem. I use the voiceover screen-reader on a Mac, and it's great at recognizing some images by the way they're labeled, I don't remember coming accross "filmstrip" anywhere.

Hi Eric,

Thanks for the assist to Capri but let me clarify just a few things.  On January 29, 2011, we discovered f

rom online posts, that

Youtube

changed all videos embedded coding from Flash-based to

IFRAME

code.

IFrame

isn't compatible with Groupsite's Discussion forums.  But it does work with no issues in our embed widget content modules that you can access from the Summary/Home Pages and More pages of each Groupsite.

You are absolutely correct that YouTube

did keep an option to export codes in the old (Flash-based) style. When getting the embed code there is a new Checkbox titled : Use Old Style Code.

Checking this box off before you copy the

YouTube

 v

ideo embed code should enable the videos to show up when adding them to your Groupsite Discussion forums.

Again, this does not affect the embed widget content modules on our Summary/Home pages or the add more pages.  We do plan to make the necessary adjustments to our platform to offset the changes made by YouTube.

Thanks again for the assist with Capri!

Celeste -

Would you have an idea when that issue of youtube embed coding would be taken care of?

Eric

Hi Eric,

Unfortunately, I can not give you and estimated date of completion, but i will contact when the changes have been made.

I'm doing exactly as Eric instructs above in a discussion forum and on the blog and neither will accept the legacy code for YouTube videos. Any other ideas? I'm very well versed in this stuff and I can't figure it out. Frustration.

Hi Brian,

Here is a helpful link: http://champions.groupsite.com/post/how-to-embed-a-widget-for-dummies-like-me

Also, please review Celeste Wooten's reply to Eric regarding old embed code vs new embed code dated April 20th, 2011.

If you are still having an issue after reviewing this information, please contact us directly at support@groupsite.com.  We can then further troubleshoot what may be happening.

I already looked at this entire thread. I'm not trying to create a widget, I know how to do all that. I'm also, as I said, very familiar with all of this stuff. I'm trying to embed a YouTube video into a blog post and/or discussion forum and it doesn't work in either case. Even when I use the legacy code.

Hi Brian,

When you create your Blog Plost, go to Advanced text editor, click on the icon for adding video (it looks like film). Paste in your Youtube embed code (then click insert; you will NOT see the video in "preview". You will see it when you click on save.

As we have stated,  Youtube changed all videos embedded coding from Flash-based to IFRAME code. IFrame isn't compatible with Groupsites Discussion forums.

YouTube did keep an option to export codes in the old (Flash-based) style. When getting the embed code there is a new Checkbox titled : Use Old Style Code.

Checking this box off before you copy the YouTube video embed code should enable the videos to show up when adding them to your Groupsite Discussion forums. (See the attached screen shot)
