Hi Emil,
The best way to prevent spammers from getting into your group is to change your Group's membership from "Anyone Can Join" to by "Invitation Only" or by "Invitation or Approved Request". This change in how your members gain entrance into your group will allow you to control who gets in.
When we detect a spammer in your group, we immediately suspend that user from not just your group but from the Groupsite.com Platform for violations to our Terms of Service.
Sincerely.

Just to add my 2 cents worth here.
Create a few questions via a questionnaire for the new users/members to answer upon log in.. This will also weed out any bot like/spam activity.. A few good and relvant questions created by your group will help determine who is and who isn't willing to contribute to a worthy cause or group.

Hi Juke,
We appreciate your feedback! This information may be helpful to certain groups.
We do have security measures in place to block out bot like spam activity , and spammers know this. However, without going into too much detail, the particular spammers referenced in this post are individuals who join a particular "Public" site whose membership is set to "anyone can join" to cause a problem. These user(s) then contact members of that group via 'Private ' Message. What a pain they are!
Sincerely.

This is a growing issue at any site.. more and more hackers are spamming other respectable users and even creating "Latch" bots which latch onto groups or sites and create multiple accounts and bogus user names.. This one site I've been asked to moderate.. has nearly 1000 users.. However.. 98% of these so called user account names are bogus bot names.. One of the members created the first account and then the bot takes over creating 1000's of bogus user names just to make the site/forum etc look like it has allot of members.
Sure I have my site set to the invitation or submit application setting.. But again all it takes is one to get through.
I think most site holders are under the assumption that they can create a site.. invite users then simply walk away and allow the site to run itself. It's not that easy anymore.. you have to appoint numerous mods and admins just to keep the site in order.. and when the mods or admin don't see eye to eye.. the site become corrupted in many ways.. Post are removed by one mod when another mod feels there is nothing wrong with the post.
So appoint your mods wisely and never leave your site/group/network un-attended even for a minute.
