Subgroup Discussion Forums

Hi Kathleen,

Are you referring to multiple discussion forums for Subgroups like we have with the main group?  If so, we just recently made the decision to allow multiple discussion forums for Subgroups because we understand that for some large groups that have a lot of discussions occurring in subgroups, this feature enhancement would be helpful with organization.

We initially pushed back a little on enhancing this feature because we are staying true to our position that subgroups are not mini Groupsites, but a tool within a Groupsite to help larger groups better manage their members.  I do not yet have a date for this implementation.  I can tell you our current priorities that are scheduled to be completed by the end of the year (2010).

1. Platform Move to Engine Yard- (This will significantly improve site speed and access)

2. Enterprise Dashboard  (Great management tool for large Enterprise Groups)

3. Reply to Email/Discussion Blasts from your Email Inbox (Depending on how items 1 and 2 go, this may not be completed until January, but I would like it as a Holiday gift).

Going into the first quarter 2011, we will be shifting to implementing more collaboration type functionality.  However, adding the ability to have multiple discussion forums for subgroups has also been requested by several major enterprise clients.  This means we will also find a way to squeeze this in.

If multiple discussion forums for subgroups is not what you are referring to... sorry, just write me back, and I will give it another shot.

Hi Sid,

No, there is no update on when this subgroup functionality will be implemented.  We have completed item #1 listed and some of the functionality for item #2. 

We have made minor improvements to Subgroups as it relates to what subgroup admins/managers who are also not main group managers can do:

Subgroup managers who are not main Groupsite managers can now:

1.Create, Edit, Delete Files/Folders in the subgroup

2. Delete topics posted by other users in the subgroups the administer

3. Edit topics created by other users in the subgroups they administer
