Sign up for newsletter area

please consider having an area where upon when a new member signs up, they can opt in for a newsletter.  This could be under the Summary area and/or the Members area.  The newsletter would be outsourced to a third party but would be another way to provide communication about what the site is and current events.  A box form template feature could be offered and configured when someone views the summary page or adds information to their Member page.  Now I am still new to this but I see how an email blast can be sent out also and that might be one way to utilize this but ethically I feel that I should seek permission to do this. Any thoughts?
