Invitations to Groupsites

Hello,

I have sent an invitation to a sub forum to someone who is not a forum member. I would like to know if:

1) If they accept invitation to the sub forum will they automatically become a member of the forum as a whole? And

2) Sometimes the invitation generated by Groupsite gets caught in SPAM filters, is there a way I can send a direct (personal) email to someone that includes an invitation to the sub forum/forum?

Thanks

John

Hi John,

1. Yes, if they accept the invitation to the sub forum, they will also be accepting an invitation to the forum as a whole.  You cannot be in a sub forum without also being a part of the whole forum.

2. Please ensure that your pending members are whitelisting our mail generators.  If a pending member cannot receive the invitation generated for themr, they will also have problems receiving all of the other Email sent such as notifications about discussions, recent activity, password resets, etc.  We have to resolve that issue.

We recently removed a work around that was in place that would enable Groupsite managers to send the pending members  invitation link directly to the pending member.  That process caused havoc to our system and created some security issues.

Here is the whitelisting information:

- Ask them to try adding mailer@groupsite.comcxmailer@collectivex.comnotifier@groupsite.com and support@groupsite.com to their address book and/or email whitelist

Thanks Celeste, we may go semi public with the site.

I'm having issues with pending members receiving the invitations. I would say about 50% never receive it. Funny thing is that they receive other email sent such as notifications about discussions, recent activity after they gain access to our groupsite.

We used the work around regularly, that was in place that would enable Groupsite managers to send the pending members invitation link directly to the pending member.

Now it seems that this has been removed. There is no spam filtering going on the actual mail account so I'm thinking it's being filtered at a higher level. Whitelisting is not an option if you don't control your actual mail server is most ISPs don't whitelist.

Is there any other options? I have 14 people waiting to join our site and I can't figure out a way for them to gain access.

Hi Derek,

Since your Groupsite permissions are set to membership by Invitation or Request to Join, the easy fix is to have these members request to join the site and you can approve the request.  The bigger issue is if these members are not receiving the invitations, they will more than likely not receive our other Email such as password resets, recent activity updates etc.

Please write in to us at support@groupsite.com with their email addresses and names so that we can investigate why they did not receive the invitation.

Celeste

Hi Celeste,

I changed the permissions to membership by Invitation or Request to Join after I posted my first message as a workaround (It was set to invitation only). I didn't realize that could be done until I found it in the settings.

Like I stated in my previous post, it seems that even though members do not receive invitations, they do receive all email activity once they join the groupsite. It's very strange. My two accounts are prime examples of issues. I'll email support@groupsite.com

Thank you

Derek

Thanks Derek... that is strange.  We will look for your message in Support.

Sincerely,

Celeste

Hi Celeste and Derek

We are having the same issue with our most recent site.  I too would send the direct link to others who had this problem in the past and no longer see that option. I will have them request to join.

I am interested in the result of the situation from support@groupsite

Thanks

Celeste (a different Celeste)

Hi Celeste P,

It is good to hear from you again.  Unfortunately because of security reasons, that "link" will not be making a reappearanceFrown.  Have your members whitelisted the appropriate Email addresses?  Can you provide us with an example of someone who did not receive their invitation the next time that it occurs?  We will track the email.  Please provide that information to us at Support@groupsite.com.  We do not like to discuss a member's account information in an open forum.

Sincerely,

Celeste W
