Premium Options Where Costs can be Passed to Group Members
Just an Idea:
Over the long-run, I see the option to turn-off advertising as a major disincentive for me to grow my network. At $10 per 100 members, that cost can add up very quickly, and I am not sure I can even make that money back through advertising.
As an alternative--and in lieu of the advertising penalty--I would request adding some features where the cost can be passed on to my members who want to use them. For example, paypal take a small cut of payments made through their website. Likewise, I would rather share some of the revenue with CollectiveX that I receive from some members who want to use some special features and are willing to pay for them.
For example, if you integrate a chat feature, give the manager the option to charge each individual members for the service. Then CollectiveX can take a small percentage of the revenue. Likewise for other special features like blogs and other items... I would be happy to share the revenue with CollectiveX rather than pay the $10 per 100 people to control the advertising.
For those folks who don't like that idea and don't want to remove the advertising feature, there is no harm done. For those individuals who want to control their own advertising, they can choose whether to pay the $10 per 100 persons or pass on a percentage of the premium revenue they collect from their members to CollectiveX.
