How Can We Backup and/or Export Our Groupsite Blog?

We would like to export our Groupsite blog to a more robust blogging platform like WordPress. Is there any way to do this? Has anyone done it before?

Also, is there anyway to backup blog content to an external drive or server that we own?

Thanks;-)

I am also interested in exporting blog data but could not find any method. Please help.

Hi Vishwadeep,

Currently, not everything in a Groupsite can be exported by you (as a
Groupsite Manager).  The blog, email blast, file cabinet, photo gallery
and subgroup content are currently not available from the export
function within your Groupsite.

We have received several requests to add this functionality. We submitted this as an enhancement request on ticket # 15137945.

I hope this information helps!

Thanks for the prompt reply. One more related question - Is it possible to export member images (profile pics)?

Hi Vishwadeep,

The member profile pictures may export if you use the XML export option.  I've posed this question to our more technical staff to see if they can confirm.

Diana

Hi Diana,

Eagerly awaiting the technical staff reply on this.

Hi Vishwadeep,

The links to the profile photos appear in the XML, but the actual file
does not.  You will have to process the XML and download the files.

Is there now a way to export our data (i.e. photos, blog posts, files, etc.) from our Groupsites?

Hi Brian,

The functionality to export photos, blog posts, and files still does not exist.  As a Groupsite Manager, you are able to export specific group data at anytime.  You can currently export your data by going to the "Manager" tab; then click on "Group Settings" sub tab; You will see an area located on the right sidebar of this page that says:

"Export Your Data"

You will see the links to export: Discussions, Events, Members, Pending Members and Membership Requests. Clinking each link will download the desired info as a XML or CSV file.

If you have additional questions, please write us back at support@groupsite.com.

Celeste:  I see that we have evidently reached a limit that I assume went into effect on 1/1/2012.  We have been using the site for about 2 years at no charge.  It now seems that we have to upgrade to the monthly billing charge that fits our program.  We are a total volunteer group that tutors adults on reading and writing.  As members of Partners in Reading, an adjunct of the King San Jose Library, we are barely able to stay open due to budget cuts, let alone add on a monthly fee that for our group is much too costly.  I have been asked by the staff why we cannot add new members - as your system has started to reject them.  Do you have any suggestions?  Will you provide us some time to determine our alternatives? Would you consider waving this fee on the basis that we are providing a much needed service to our community?  Any help/charitable consideration/other positive options would be appreciated...thank you................Jim Barbeau

"The functionality to export photos, blog posts, and files still does not exist."   Still the case?

No choice but to leave the service if members cannot export as needed.

Hi Diana,

We're sorry, but the functionality to export the Groupsite Blog, Photos, and Files does not currently exist.  you can currently export Discussions, Events, Members, Pending Members and Membership Requests.  We're sorry that we could not be more helpful at this time.
