Changing the Required Profile Questions

Is there a way to remove/change the profile questions? One of my potential members will not join because of a specific question, and I was wondering if there is a way to simply remove it, or make it not mandatory.

Thanks,

DeAndrea

DeAndrea - Here's how:

1. Select MANAGER Tab

2. From the "Group Settings" page select "Custom Profile Questions"

3. Fro the "Custom Profile Questions" page you can either uncheck the "required" box or select "Delete this question"   - see below

Attachment.

Hope that helps,

Shaun

This is not what I am asking. I did not create this question as a custom question; it is a groupsite mandatory question. Does that make more sense?

Here is a screen shot of the join page:

Ah - gotcha.  Today, there is nothing you can do about that one.  We are working on getting that removed at a system level but it involves a bit more work than just taking it away since the choice effects other parts of the grammar of the system like "endorse him" or "endorse her" and statistics.

Once this is removed, the only mandatory system fields will be:

1. First Name

2. Last Name

3. email address

4. password

Shaun, my groupsite is related to workplace equality, so knowing city, state, and employer is very important information.  Any consideration of an option to make some of the fields like these mandatory?

Ralph -- we agree this would be useful. We'd like to give managers the ability to make any profile field mandatory and I've requested it as an enhancement under Ticket #1728.  Unfortunately, it's not something we'll have tomorrow, but we do plan to make this available in the future.

Diana, I am thrilled the groupsite team has this in the future plans.  It will be very useful to us!

Hi, everyone - a related update:

While members still see the "gender" field upon sign-up, specifying a gender isn't required anymore. Folks who don't provide this will have a gender-neutral avatar and we've removed the pre-populated pronoun references ("she" and "he" in Endorsements, Biobuilder, etc.).

Also, in the manager's Statistics area, you'll find gender data reported as "unspecified" for those folks who don't provide it.

I appoligize, I didn't notice this request until just now, I believe Ralph's request above (Ticket #1728) is what I need also.  City and State are absolutely needed in order for any of my members to use the system.  They cannot really connect with other members at all if they don't know anything about them at all.  It makes the system way less meaningful.  I hate to say it this way, but if your site is for professionals and your members don't enter the basic contact info you'd find on any business card, like the name of your company, your title or your city and state, it really makes the system feel somewhat useless.  Sorry for the harsh words, but this has to be included somehow!!

Even if you just add a simple yes/no screen when joining to ask them if they'd like to enter their contact info now or later.  Please help, once my members join it is very difficult to get them to go back and enter this important information.  I appreciate your support.  Mark

Hi Mark,

You make a great point, and one thing we've learned is that different information is important to different groups. In your case, city is essential. For others, requiring city is seen as a barrier. This is exactly why we'd like to give managers control over what is and isn't required. In the meantime, you may want to try a couple different things to encourage your members to complete this information.

One idea is to use your Welcome Text module to alert your members about filling out their profile to promote more networking and collaboration within the Groupsite. Point out the Profile Completeness meter, which will help members determine how much more of their profile they need to complete. Also, describe the benefits it will have on the entire community.

I hope this helps.

Thanks Diana!  I appreciate your response.  We will do some of the things you suggested.  As we discussed, try and join yourself as a new member just to refresh yourself how that script works.  Maybe you'll figure out a possible work around for me.  And feel free to join IntroduceMe360 to see how our site works.

Thanks

Mark

Diana, I am glad that the team has this "mandatory" field problem on top of the problem pile.  It will be really great to give groupsite managers the ability to make some field mandatory and others optional.

This would be a WONDERFUL addition to groupsite setup.  I would love to be able to control which fields are mandatory for members to include. We have problems with getting members to include important info, once they've joined the site.

Guys, I hate to be a pest on this.  But I can't stress enough how critical this is for anybody managing a professional group on groupsite!  NONE of my new members are entering basic information like their company name, website, job title, city, state.  I don't know what business professional wouldn't want to share the stuff you'd find on their business card.  BUT IT IS HAPPENING.  They just don't take the time to do it.  Previously all my members had this information.  I now have hundreds of members without this key information and the system is way less credible.  This is serious, I know it just seems like a little problem, but it is really hurting the credibility of the system, especially for professional groups.  I will ask again, can we have a temporary solution before the ultimate solution?  Can the system simply prompt them with a "Enter Contact Info   Now   Later" during the join process?  Then it is not mandatory, but they would at least have the opportunity to do this when joining.  Thanks for all you guys do, I know you are busy with many priorities.

Mark

Happy 4th of July!  When you have a moment please share any updates with us on this please.  Just curious if you can give an estimated timeline?  Thanks guys!
