This post is a major gripe
Hello colleagues.
I will have to ask you all for your apology in advance for this post, but I really need to air out a gripe I have. Let me first start by saying that I think everyone at CollectiveX is doing a great job, and that they should be proud of what they have created so far using this platform: Joe, Clarence, Rob, Kevin, etc.
Here is my gripe: Online social networks of the world are opening up, including Facebook, MySpace, and any one that you can shake a stick at. The other day I noticed that the javascript generated links in my custom right column were gone, and I posted a bug in the Bug discussions. Joe then informed me that CollectiveX doesnt allow javascript.
I am sorry gentleman, but this is bogus. I have had that script there for a year showing important links that are key to me and my constituency. 1st of all its not right to not warn us and just do it. Rule #4 in Matt Haughey’s seven tips on how to run a successful community: "Bring users in during community decisions". 2nd of all, I cant barely find a web 3.0 site that does NOT allow for widgets. In fact, widgets are what partially defines the modern evolving web.
So this is my gripe colleagues, and I hope you all will consider it and let this thing evolve and grow. If this platform was a gigantic, faceless, corporate service like MySpace I could see how us user voices are not important. But CollectiveX is a niche play that should do all it can to get traction, grow members/users, and help facilitate all that can be done to help members grow their membership (there are gobs of new feature requests here). Taking away javascript widgets from our communities is an enormous step backwards in perspective and service. What is being done to keep us user loyal?
This is not meant to offend anyone, its just a gripe.

Jonathon - Thanks for letting us know how you feel. No offense taken. The "co-creation" concept is an important, and valuable aspect to how we have been as successful as we have been to date.
As keeper of the keys for the overall security, scalability and reliability of the CollectiveX platform, Joe (our CTO) feels that allowing Java script is a major security issue for us. We are looking into alternatives.
Bringing users into community decisions is something we value greatly and one of the primary reasons my position of CIO (Chief Involvement Officer) was added to the team. It is also why we established this Champions group.
We regret the inconvenience we have caused you at present but can assure you that our voice is being heard.
Jonathan,
Thanks for pointing out how you feel about this. We've discussed this again internally, and we have decided to re-enable the ability to enter JavaScript to allow you to use JavaScript-only widgets.
However, if this feature is abused, then we may end up having to backtrack on this issue again. I promise that the next time, if ever, we deem it necessary to change any policy or implementation related to this issue, all group managers will be notified in advance.
It will be restored sometime tomorrow.
Thanks Joe.
I couldnt imagine why this would not be allowed considering all that is happening with friendster, MySpace, FaceBook, Google, etc. What needs to happen with CollectiveX is to allow javascript and in the meantime determine what specific problems could occur and how you might deal with them. I dont think you have rampant abuse right now. Shutting the door is throwing the baby out with the bathwater.
Thanks!
Jonathan
