Manager capabilities

I'm surprised at how little managers have been given the ability to do. I'd like to request the following for managers:
- Be able to see members' Profile settings and be able to make changes (some members request this of us and we cannot help them)
- Be able to see members' Preferences and be able to make changes (see above)
- Be able to set the minimum level of connection with the site to be a member (i.e. at least get the digest once per two weeks, etc.)
- Be able to remove/disable things like My Objectives and My Key Connections from Social sites (it confuses our new members--too many things onscreen)
Thank you for considering my requests! :)

I agree that the managers need these options over their group members.
Liza and Lesa - I appreciate where the requests above are coming from - a thoughtful manager who wants to help their members. The challenge I am having is, we spend most of our development and design time trying to ensure that Groupsites are simply better than any other self-serve social collaboration tool. Therefore, what immediately jumps to my mind is what can we do better that would allow all of your users to easily make these changes themselves?
If we were simply an online directory, all of your requests make extreme sense but we are not in the online directory business. We are in the business of helping engaged groups make things happen. How engaged can a member be if they can't even update their own information and preferences?
As for Member Objectives and Key Connections, we still see them as core features that over 90% of our groups use. We are always open to the fact that, overtime, the basic needs of a standard group may change but we have not seen this in the last 2 years we have been online.
I do want you both to know that this is exactly the kind of feedback that we value and take into very serious consideration as we define the future of social collaboration.
All the best,
Shaun
The thing is, people are busy and really, to be honest, many of them are just plain ignorant when it comes to the Internet. We have members still on dial-up! People want us as the group managers to get them what they need and we as managers want them to get the group info in a timely manner.
Sometimes members don't want to be engaged in the ways we would like them to. People just want it easy and that means the managers handling things like this for them.
Our group came over from Yahoo groups. This is a completely new platform for them. We are a homeschool support group. Our members are busy with kids all day, teaching and taking care of a household. We need to make it easier on them to get group info without a lot of time or effort on their part.
Oh, and I'd really love it if you all could make the calendar have options like the discussions. Where when something is posted or there is a discussion on a calendar item that it can be mailed to the group. We also need reminder options on the calendar like Yahoo Groups has, so we can preset dates to have it email out reminders of upcoming deadlines and events.
I'd have to concur completely with what Lesa said. The web intimidates many of our members, a large enough number to make communication difficult, even with as wonderful a tool as Groupsites is. If it weren't for the fact that managers can add a photo to a member's profile, we'd have at least 30% without a photo still. I think that inhibits communication. I'm grateful for that manager option.
And Lesa, several people have requested those same calendar items here, as well, including me. :) One thing you can do to let people know right away about a posted calendar item is to send out an RSVP invite right away. It has taken a little bit of effort, but I trained my leaders to do that, though I'm still having people request that I be the one to send out the reminder RSVP invite. Sure would be nice to have that set up to be sent out automatically.
You guys are doing a great job with Groupsites! I am so happy to have found you. I personally don't understand the intimidation caused by the site, but I get regular feedback to its existence. As Communications Coordinator for a group of 98+ families, it's important to me to make things as easy as possible for our members to connect.
