Posting threaded comments in File Cabinet?

Is there is a way to post threaded comments directly to files uploaded to the File Cabinet? Similar to the way Box.net works.

Also, is there a setting to specify when someone has a file checked out and is working on it?

Carol - I have never used box.net but do know that our file cabinet is intentionally light weight compared to many document management solutions. We do offer the most useful features of simply allowing files to be shared, organized within folders and searched, however, we do not have any notion of checking in or out of documents.

As for threaded comments, that is handled through our Discussion Forums where you can easily attach files.

Hope that helps,

Shaun

Dear Shaun,

I can see that this discussion has taken place long time ago but I would like to come back to it.

I have recently came accross a Ning group that had a commnet box (simmilar to the one I am using now) at the end of almost every component of their site. It seemd to generate a lot of very usefull discussions. For example in the files section people were commenting on the usefulness of certain documents, in the shared links section people will comment or suggest additional links.

I know that there are forums but sometimes just making it possilbe for a communication space to exist at the space where people already are meeting is in fact much more usefull than assuming that they will all know of a forum discussion dedicated to a particular document, which exist separately and they need to find it first before communicating. It is just unnatural flow of the communication process and leads to missed opportunities for interaction which is very very important.

Many thanks for your great support,

Todor

Hi Todor,

Thank you for your feedback!  We have not discussed adding this type of functionality "Comment Box at the end of every component" to our Platform, but that does not mean it's not a good idea.  I have added a ticket to discuss this functionality with development at our next staff meeting.  The ticket # is 28781183.  I will let you know if I receive any feedback on adding this type of functionality.

Sincerely,
