Removing social profiles

Hi I have recently set up a new group for my company however they want to remove the following;

social profiles (to leave professional only)

the ability to endorse other members

the ability to have private discussions with other members (so that only managers can initiate private discussions)

Are these three things possible in Groupsite?

Thanks in advance
Michelle

Michelle -  As a Groupsite manager, you can set the default profile for your Groupsite to "Professional."  This is done from the MANAGER > Group Settings > General Settings area and the screen will look like this:

Attachment.

This won't delete the Social profile, but it will make the Social profile available for others to see only if a member changes its visibility permission setting in their profile to do so. Centering your Groupsite around a professional purpose further eliminates the likelihood of anyone going out of their way to turn it on.

Regarding the ability to eliminate the member endorsement and private messaging features, there isn't a way to do this. Groupsites are designed to progressively engage members. The system encourages people to continue sharing information over time so members can develop collaborative relationships and trust and then take action.

Can you share why you'd prefer to remove the Endorsement and Private Messaging features?

Diana my question is indirectly related to the topic above.  Even if the administrator sets the default profile to 'Professional', what would prohibit a member (non-administrator) to change their default profile to Social?  It appears that there is a way to do this since I tried to change my default profile within this group to Social but was not able to (although my Social setting is set to Visible).

Thx

Sheri - The manager can set the group's default profile as stated above. After that, each user can decide if they want to make the other profile visible or not. They cannot make this second profile the default.  They can only add it to their profile as the secondary profile tab.

This is another example of how Groupsites are designed to be group-centric, not individual-centric like most "social networks".

Hope that helps,

Shaun

Got it.  Thanks Shaun. The fact that it's 'VISIBLE' and not greyed out, gives user the impression that the user has full control over what profile is displayed.  One suggestion for the team might be to add a little pop-up on the Profiles page, that tells the user that the displayed profile is dictated by the group's default profile.  The other profile setting will only become available if the group's default setting is changed and is set to VISIBLE.
