Importing an existing community into CollectiveX
So, I'm a member of a number of yahoo groups, that I want to migrate to collective X...
In an ideal world I would just plug in my username and password, and have collectivex take all the existing messages and sort them into discussions, and forums...
But before we start importing entire communities, I figured, at the very least, it would be good to be able to re-create the conversations and discussions that have already happened...
the only thing is, if I do that I end up being the associated "author" of all the posts...
so what I'd like, is to be able to, as a manager, change the "created by" for a post, from me to a member in the community...
Unless you can think of another way of taking conversations in a community and "migrating" them over??

Hey Farhan,
Sorry I didn't notice this sooner.
What we can do for you is to import all of your data for you. If you're a CollectiveX Enterprise user, then this is free on a one-time. Otherwise, just give us an idea of what size the groups are, the number of discussions, etc., and we can tell you what it would involve to import them all into the system for you.
Farhan,
You are spot on. It totally makes sense to create an import mechanism for Yahoo and Google Groups. I also think it makes sense to offer this to all groups for free. I'm sure there are thousands of groups that would like to go from a portal group experience to their own Groupsite. Expect to see this in the not too distant future. Importing discussions may be a little tricky, but I'm sure we can figure out a solution.
a group import feature is a fantastic idea. I have yahoo and google groups that I would definitely consider moving over.
