Creating an FAQ List within a SubGroup
We would like to create a FAQ list within a subgroup, but we are a bit "lost" as to how to go about this... We thought about creating a discussion post, but then to find the answer to a specific question you would have to go through the whole list of questions.
Another option would be to create a Forum for FAQ's but since subgroups don't allow separate "forums" within the group, that is out.
Another option would be to create a discussion post for each FAQ, but then they get lost within the other postings within that group.
Yet another option would be to place a FAQ File within the file cabinet but then it is not searchable, and pretty much gets lost unless a person knows to go there and download it.
Even another option would be to create a custom page within the subgroup, but this isn't a feature.
Does anyone have any other suggestions? We are pretty desperate to figure this out...
Thanks,
DeAndrea

How do I change the File Cabinet 'default folder' when uploading docs to the discussion forum? | 2 | 0 | 1817 |
Deandrea,
While it would be public to the general Group members, you can use Content Customization to create a "More" page containing your subgroup's FAQs, and then promote (and link to) this page from within your subgroup.
On your "More" page (which you can re-title), you can write FAQs directly in "Freeform Text" type content modules. Or, you can write the FAQs as blog posts (in either your main Group blog or your subgroup blog, as appropriate) and then in your Freeform text module list the various topics, organized as you choose, hyperlinking each topic to its respective blog post. (You can check out the FAQs in this Groupsite, as an example).
You can then link to your FAQs page from the home page of your subgroup. Do this using the WYSIWYG Editor in the "Additional Home Page Content" section that you can see when you click on the Administration button for your subgroup.
Another alternative is to maintain your FAQs in a document, upload the document to your subgroup's file cabinet, and then promote and link to this file from your subgroup's home page (described above).
These abilities (subscribe to Content Customization, add More pages and content modules, administer subgroups, etc.) are available to Groupsite Managers.
Hope this helps.

Wouldn't it be great if we could just add Discussion Forums to our sugroups? Pleeease :-)
We agree, adding Forums (and not just topics) to subgroups would make subgroups even more robust and we expect we'll work toward this in the future. In the meantime, a "more" page linked from the home page of a subgroup can be useful as an FAQs page. Hope this helps!
