Create Forms

Please advise whether contact us or registration or any other forms can be developed and shared with the community...and whether the feature is available on any site premium or not.

Hi, Muriel.   The ability to create forms is not a feature within Groupsites, but our premium Content Customization feature and content modules allow you to add them.

Other groups have successfully used tools such as Wufoo to create forms and generate HTML code, and then insert the code into their Groupsite using a content module on a custom page.

Regarding sharing the code for already-developed forms within this community, I'm not aware of such information being documented or shared to date, but its a wonderful idea that we may be able to look into. And, our Champions are always invited to contribute information that may benefit others at any time.

I posted this in another topic with the same issue.  Using 3rd party forms (posting to other vendors) is pretty risky if you do not have full disclosure and accountability for what those vendors do with your information.  I would highly recommend not doing it.  Wufoo and formassembly store the information from the sender in their database (granted it's claimed to be for reporting), but you do not know how they use it and how they secure it.  Contact forms are very basic, and I'm surprised you do not have the feature available and are pointing people to 3rd party vendors for this.

after further research, here is a free service (or option to pay for advanced features) which turns OFF database capture of emailed information by default:  http://www.emailmeform.com/

you should still not ask for personal or secure information through third party software vendors, though.  This service even suspend accounts who do.

I believe this may be developed by the Groupsite.com team. They are already giving managers an option to create custom Profile questions, which is a kind of a Sub-form. Few fields and boxes to accept user inputs. If they can tweak this code a bit, they may accomplish this with an option to create new pages with some fields and user inputs.

Of course, development effort is definitely more if you want to make it pretty.

I am not aware of development being made on contact forms.  Last message in another thread from Shaun is that it is in their "future" stack, meaning...  I don't know.

I just created one using the freeform module, and emailmeform.com because they just recently (2 days ago) changed their model, so they are offering a simple pass-through email service with no data retention... for free. (they say they do not store the data in the database, it's a 3rd party vendor so I would still be cautious).  They even state in their FAQ that they suspend accounts who ask for sensitive information.

It's great because they offer Captcha validation (those silly numbers and letters you have to enter before submitting) so it will cut down on spam.  Their form creation is easy and fairly quick, and you can copy and paste the code right into the HTML Source tab of your module.

I also was able to get a THANK YOU message to appear above the form.  Usually you specify a page to send the user after form submission, but creating a separate page will create a link which appears in the "More" link of the navigation (I see they are working on hiding pages but it's not here yet).  I have a bit of code in the freeform area to dynamically display a THANKS message after the form is submitted and the user returns to the page.  Contact me if you want it, this message is already too long.
