Please allow us to default Newest First rather than Oldest First

On discussion forums that are brand new, 'Oldest First' is fine because you can see everything. However, you will notice that on a lot of more mature, venerable discussion boards on other systems, users are either allowed or defaulted to 'Newest First'.
On CollectiveX, you can make a temporary change, but it defaults right back to Oldest First when you return a moment later. A number of users, that I know of, found it incredible annoying. I bet if you did a poll on some of these features, by people who have been using the groupsite for a while vs just getting on it, you may be more inclined to make changes.

Hi Dee,
We have this issue listed under ticket # 5345943. We have been continuing dialogue on this issue, but it has been more one on one with Groupsite Managers. The latest update from September 24, 2010, is this:
We discussed options for the oldest vs newest tab for news etc. Our developers would rather the system remember where you left off, and when you clicked a discussion you viewed recently it took you to right where you were with the posts still in the "correct" order. They disagree with changing the order to newest/oldest for two reasons:
1. The reverse order messages encourages people to reply to the thread without reading the previous responses
2. Managers picking the order adds another control to an already complicated system. Just remembering the location could happen without much additional coding.
Although no final decision has been made, "remembering the location" would more than likely be our implementation choice. We do not yet have a timeframe for finalizing this issue.
Sincerely,
Celeste Sharper Wooten

Is this a dead issue? It's really frustrating for users to click on discussions and not see the most recent one first.
Hi Dee,
I am going to push this again with development. I am on board with the logic to have the newest post first. I will keep you posted.
Sincerely,
