Associating a discussion thread with a calendar event

I've been trying to get my networking group to prepare for meetings and follow up afterwards by posting to a discussion thread. It would be really cool if that particular thread could either show up on the calendar detail page or link from it. Having prominence in the "Upcoming Events" section would also be helpful for getting people to do that when they get to the site as opposed to screwing around on other topics and forgetting.
